JESUS HOLDS THE UNIVERSE TOGETHER.

SERIES: THE MAJESTY OF JESUS CHRIST

TEXT: COLOSSIANS 1:15-21

Our Lord Jesus Christ is the center of history in all the world. We talk about BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domino) everywhere in the world. There is no Christianity without Jesus Christ. Jesus isn’t just the means, He is the great end. He is the fullest and deepest revelation of God. His sovereign dominion over the world was clothed with a spirit of obedience and submission. He baffled the proud scribes with his wisdom but was simple enough to be loved by children. He could still a mighty with a word, but would not strike the unbelieving Samaritan’s with lightning to make them believe in Him.

The glory of Christ is not a simple thing, it comes together in one person of extremely diverse qualities.

Christ is the end of the law-Rom. 10:4, so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. It is not through the law as many people think, that pleases God. It is through Christ alone that everyone can receive the righteousness of God. The law is insufficient to make one please God.

TRUE FAITH IS CENTERED ON JESUS CHRIST AS GOD.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation-Col. 1:15.
By Him all things were created in heaven and earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created through Him and for Him-Vs. 16. Jesus Christ is creator-John 1:1-3. All things were made through Jesus Christ and without Him was not anything made that was made.
All things were created for Him; He is the reason why the creation we see exists.
God the father commands all angels; Michael, Gabriel and all other to worship Jesus-Hebrews 1:6.
Men of the Old Testament knew very little about God. Jesus came to reveal God. We know much more about God through the person of Jesus Christ-Jeremiah 31:34. A God who is not well known cannot be worshipped sufficiently.
It is after our knowing Jesus as the only way to God the father that we worship God sufficiently, as declared by Jesus. “The hour is coming and in is now here when the true worshippers will worship the father in spirit and in truth, for the father is seeking such people to worship Him”-John 4:23.

JESUS HOLDS THE UNIVERSE TOGETHER.

Think about the sun with the earth and the planets going round the sun; think about the atoms with the nucleus (neutrons and protons) in the middle and the electrons surrounding the nucleus.
Think about the intermolecular bonds that exists between molecules that make matter.
If these forces cease to exist all matter would disintegrate and fall apart including our bodies.
The forces that hold the nuclei together, the cells together, the molecules together and the gravitational forces that holds the planets to the sun even in other galaxies, are the forces of Jesus Christ. He holds the universe together.

JESUS IS THE IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE GOD-Col. 1:15.

Man has ever wanted to see God physically. He is curious to see God.
God commanded man not to make anything physical as an image of God-Exodus 20:4.
The disciples asked the Lord to “show us the father.” They wanted to see the father physically.
The obsession to see God physically has driven men to make images of dieties whom they can see and touch, like the images of virgin Mary and today many go to the “shrines” erected for virgin Mary to worship there, a god they can see.
In the pagan religions of the East, there are uncountable images of dieties men worship.
Jesus is the image of the invisible God.
The fullness of God was pleased to dwell in Jesus. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation-Col. 1:15.
