THE GREATEST OF ALL GOALS; PLEASING GOD

SERIES: LIVING A PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE

TEXT: MATTHEW 6:33

INTRODUCTION

Everyone has a value system, things they value more and others they value less. These values are the basic driving forces in everyone’s life. You invest your time, energy, resources, etc., in the things. If you value the wrong things you will waste your life building on the wrong foundation. What do most people in the world value?

WEALTH, MATERIALISM, POSSESSIONS

The desire to acquire more wealth becomes the central part of life. Their lives are driven by money, land, property, career, etc. This drive to always want more is best on the misconceptions that having more will make me happier, more important and more secure. All these ideas are untrue. Possessions only provide temporary happiness. Because things do not change we eventually become bored with them and then want newer, bigger, newer and better versions.
Wealth, good as it is, it is deceitful. It promises things it cannot deliver. Our Lord said that the “deceitfulness of wealth” even causes some seeds (believer) not to produce- Mark 4:19.
1st Tim.6:6-10- We are supposed to work hard. God rewards hard work even with wealth but our greatest goal in life should not be wealth.
The people of the world live for this, but we are supposed to be different.
God called a man a “Fool” because he lives for wealth only- Luke 12:19-20.

FAME, CLASS AND APPROVAL

Many people in the world place high value on these things.

Fame: many people want to be famous, they even sue others in courts of law for defamation and libel, to protect their fame in the society.
Our standard is our Lord Jesus Christ. He did not count equality with God as anything but humbled Himself and made Himself of no reputation- Phil.2:7-10. The word tells us to have this attitude.
Class: we live in a world where people regard “Class” in society, highly. Many people go out of their economic convenience and borrow and “Make-up” to project them to be accepted by the higher class. For us children of God, the word tells us, “Humble yourself before God and He will lift you up”- James 4:10. The Bible also tell us not to limit our interactions with people based on class, but to associate with the lowly- Romans 12:16. For the purposes of winning souls we should penetrate all classes to rich them- 1st Cor.9:20.
Approval: many people in the world are driven by expectations of others. They allow others to control their lives. Peer pressure drives their lives and they end up living other people’s lives and never live their own, always worried by what others will think. They end up following the crowd in life and get lost in the crowd of life.
Being controlled by the opinions of others is q guaranteed ways of to Miss God’s purposes for your life. The majority of people on earth are called “The world”, and all that is in the world is the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. If anyone love the world, the love of the Father is not in him- 1st John 2:15. The majority of the social values in the world (more than 50%) are not from God, the Bible calls Satan (the god of this world).

THE GREATEST OF ALL GOALS

We were created by God for His pleasure. We were designed to function to the optimum when we are in harmony with Him. As a fish will not enjoy wading on dry ground but feels the best when in water, so is man when out of fellowship with God.
Our greatest goal in life should to please God.
We please God when we get born again.
We please God when we worship Him.
We please God when we tell others about Him.
We please God when we love what He loves and hate what He hates.

CONCLUSION

Real success in life is achieved by God’s formula; seek ye FIRST, His kingdom and all these other things shall be ADDED by God- Matt.6:33.
All earthly achievements are eventually surpassed, records are broken, reputations fade, tributes and legacies are forgotten.
When you make PLEASING GOD your greatest God, will make you a star in this world. Those who walk with God reach their destination.
