THE LORD FIGHTS YOUR ENEMIES

SERIES: NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST YOU SHALL PROSPER.30

TEXT: PSALM 91:1-16

We live in a world full of danger and disease. Everywhere we go there is bacteria, viruses and fungus. That’s why we clean our hands before we eat. With the current epidemic of corona virus, one cannot know where it is safe; in the streets, in shops, supermarkets, matatus, restaurants, dormitories etc.

Other than disease there are other disasters too. We have an enemy who only comes to kill, to steal and to destroy-John 10:10. He hates us perfectly and he targets his arrows at us from time to time. The Bible says “For thy sake we are killed all day long-Romans 8:36. We also have human enemies. At times in this life calamity, disease, adversity and catastrophe strike suddenly, without notice. Even in the life of the believer, there are times the stars refuse to shine, there are times darkness appears in broad daylight. There are times to walk through the valley of the shadow of death-Psalm 23:4. Our covenant with God proves useful at such a time. Our big problem is seeking to find our safety and peace in things and people other than in God. We are in a humanistic culture. Humanists believe that humans are the final authority and have all the solutions we need for life. Life is dangerous and we are surrounded by danger. When some realize this, they seek protection from witch doctors etc. for power, protection and good fortune. For the believers:-

WE DWELL IN THE SHADOW OF THE ALMIGHTY-PSALM 91:1-4.

As a mother eagle spreads her wings over her little ones, God will spread His wings over you. He is a shelter in the time of storm, a refuge, a fortress. A shelter only protects them who get into it. We are surrounded by people who trust in horses and chariots but we will trust in the name of the Lord-Psalm 20:7.

HE WILL DELIVER YOU FROM THE SNARE OF THE FOWLER-PSALM 91:3.

A fowler is a person who hunts fowls, birds. He sets up a trap, puts something attractive a bait in it secretly and strategically positions it where he knows the birds will visit, so that the bird will be trapped. A fowler is a person who is after you; to hurt, to trap, to fix you or even kill you. The fowler seeks your downfall.

Our enemy, the devil roars like a lion walking about, seeking whom he may devour-1^st Peter 5:8. He spies on us. He knows our weak points. For 6000 years he has dealt with man and he knows where we are vulnerable. Just like the defenseless bird before the fowler so are we before the enemy-but the word of God here assures us God will deliver you from the snare of the fowler. You have no control over the trap but God has the power to deliver you from it.

THE ENEMY WILL ATTACK-PSALM 91:5-6.

The terror of the night; satan often attacks more at night. It is when the farmer was asleep at night that the enemy sneaked into the plantation to plant tares.

Evil dreams are avenues satan uses to oppress. Night runners bewitch during the night.

Witches meet in covens during the night to scheme against the people of God. Most deaths in hospitals happen in darkness.

There is deadly pestilence that stalks in darkness.
There is destruction that wastes during the day. The enemy is out to see your destruction. Romans 8:36 says “for thy sake we are killed all daylong.” The enemy is ever scheming to kill the saints but in the shadow of God’s protection his scheme can’t work. Accidents may happen but the child of God is kept safe. Vehicle accidents, earthquakes, fire etc cannot destroy you unless God allows it.

10,000 MAY FALL ON YOUR SIDE.

God can allow destruction of the wicked, even 10,000 of them but it will not come near you.
Proverbs 21:8 says that the wicked is a ransom for the righteous. God puts the wicked in the danger that was meant for the righteous.
You will see with your eyes the destruction of the wicked.
No evil will come near your tent, but it will enter into the tents of others.

HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU-PSALM 91:11-13.

His angels will lift you up in their arms so that you cannot stumble against a stone.
Angels are ministering spirits sent to minister to those who are to inherit salvation-Hebrews 1:14.
We may never realize all dangers we are spared because of unseen intervention of angels. However, sometimes we do.
The protection of angels should not be needlessly tested. Satan tempted Jesus to throw Himself down to prove that angels were serving Him-Luke 4:9-12.

GOD SPEAKING SAYS THE FOLLOWING-PSALM 91:14-16.

“Because he holds to me in love, I will deliver him.” When you love God for real, God will pay back through deliverance. Loving God has benefits. Love God with all your heart, your soul and your mind-Mathew 22:30.
“I will be with him in trouble.” When trouble comes to the child of God, you are not alone in the trouble.
“I will rescue him and honor him.” Each one of us wish to be honored, dignified. Love the Lord, He will bring honor to you, people will salute to you.
“With long life I will satisfy him.” A wonderful promise from God, the author of life.
