THROUGH OUR THOUGHTS- How the Holy Spirit speaks to us

TEXT: ISAIAH 30:21

 

Thoughts shape our lives. You cannot rise higher in your life more than your thoughts. As a man thinketh, so is he-Prov. 23:7. Thoughts come from three sources:-

YOUR OWN THOUGHTS.

• A person’s natural thoughts are influenced by family, location, schools attended, books you have read, the society culture you live in and the media.
• The enemy wants to influence your thoughts through all three areas, to make you comform to the patterns of this world-Rom. 12:2. The systems of this world are not godly. Satan has invested heavily in media, your sources of information, to adjust you to the patterns of this world, to move you away from God. That is why God does not want us to freely interact with the world. Friendship with the world is enmity with God-James 4:4.
• You have control over your own thoughts.

THOUGHTS FROM SATAN.

• Satan cannot read your thoughts but he can put thoughts into your mind; directly or indirectly. You cannot stop putting thoughts in your brain but you can reject the thoughts and disapprove them. After thoughts come into your mind you process them; you accept them or reject them. The Bible tells us :-

1. Guard your heart (mind) with all diligence, for out of it proceeds the issues of life-Prov. 4:23.
2. To take captive of every thought to make it obedient to Christ-2nd Corinthians 10:5.

• The enemy has invested a lot in media, T.v advertisements, Google, twitter, instagram, tiktok, Facebook etc so as to get sinful thoughts into your mind and so you must be selective on what kind of information to take in. There are some sites you will choose to leave so as to protect your mind from sin.

THOUGHTS FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT.

The Holy Spirit is God. He knows your thoughts. He can read them. As He reads them He reasons with you and puts thoughts into your mind. The Bible says:-

1. As you go, you will hear a voice saying “This is the way, walk in it”-Isaiah 30:21.
2. I will live among them and walk among them-2nd Cor. 6:16-18. This refers to God indwelling the believer through the Holy Spirit and speaking to the inner person of the believer.
3. The Bible is the sword of the Holy Spirit. He quotes it to the believer to help him/her fight spiritual battles against sin and demonic oppression. The more the word of God in you, the greater the weapons of the Holy Spirit to fight for you.
4. The Holy Spirit can speak to you through another servant of God through word of knowledge. He will speak to your actual situation. Examples :-

A minister of the gospel mentions your particular problem/situation without physically knowing it.

Acts 13:2, the Holy Spirit spoke through one of the people in the fellowship and said, “set apart for me Paul and Barnabas.”

Acts 21:4 the Holy Spirit spoke through another person, warning Paul not to go to Jerusalem.

CONCLUSION

• So I say, walk in the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh-Gal. 5:16.
