WAITING UPON GOD

TEXT: HABAKKUK 2:1-3; 3:17-19.

In this life, we are presented with disorder, pain, disruption of our normal way of life. This isn’t new, the children of Judah were in great turmoil. God used the Chaldeans to punish them for their iniquities. There was perplexion, emptiness of life and everything looked bleak. Habakkuk the prophet of God is disturbed by the wickedness of Judah. He asks God to intervene. Instead of God of lifting the burdens He adds more chastening; the fierce ruthless Chaldeans becomes God’s chastening rod to scourge Judah in the eyes of Habakkuk (1:5-6). Habakkuk is vexed by a thorny problem. How can God, whose eyes are pure to look on wrong, stand by silently while a wicked, blood thirsty nation swallows up a more righteous people?-(1:3). The prophet seeks a place of solitude to await God’s answer-(2:1).

Today, things are not different in our nation, families and our lives. We have been waiting upon God to do something, to change things, we feel tired, worn out in our waiting. Desperation and worries have crept in our lives but let’s listen to God’s word on waiting upon Him.

A PLACE OF SOLITUDE-Hab. 2:1.

God’s voice comes to us when we learn to surrender and wait patiently-Hab. 2:1. Habakkuk 2:1, a place of solitude is avoiding distractions and remaining still in His presence.

(Psalm 46:10). Solitude with God allows to refresh, refocus and recharge as we immerse ourselves in God’s presence.

    • Moment of being alone with God-Matthew 4:1; Matthew 14:23; Mark 1:35; Luke 4:42.
    • Solitude and silence: A practice of waiting upon God; it renews our souls.
  • A moment of rewind for God’s service (morning and evening times)-Zephaniah 1:7.
  • Be silent before God-(Psalm 62:5-6; Isaiah 30:15).

GOD’S VOICE IN WAITING UPON HIM-Hab. 2:2-3.

The scripture emphasizes the importance of writing down divine revelation and trusting in God’s timing despite delays.

  • God’s promises and God’s purpose about your life will surely come to pass. They will not delay, not in the end.
  • God’s word about you will never fail-Isaiah 55:10-11; Isaiah 40:8.

GOD ANSWERS AND ASSURES VICTORY-Hab. 3:17-19.

Describes a powerful declaration of faith and joy in God Amidst difficult circumstances.

    • Even if crop fail and livestock perish one can still find strength in God. Hardships yes, but we have our strength in God almighty.
    • We can find joy in the Lord-Vs. 17-18.
    • God’s giving strength endures us to overcome obstacles and rise above challenges.
  • Psalm 30:5, “Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning.”

CONCLUSION.

Waiting upon God in solitude helps us:-

    • Break the power of hurry, addiction to do this and that mentality-Phil. 4:6-7.
    • Helps renew our souls.
    • Clears the storm of life-Luke 6:12-13.
    • Creates inner space to hear the voice of God-1st Kings 19:2-Gentle whisper.
  • It helps to control our tongue-James 1:19, “My dear brothers, take note of this; everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”
