A DIFFERENT SPIRIT

FAITH IS THE VICTORY

NUMBERS 14:24

Caleb had a different spirit one that enabled him enter the land of Canaan and find “Union” Hebron. There are seven characteristics of a different spirit. In Numbers 13:1-2 “The Lord said to Moses, choose a leader from each tribe and send them into Canaan to explore the land I am giving you”. Numbers 13:6 “From the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.”

Numbers 14:24 “But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it. Caleb had a different spirit and because of this God was going to bring him into the land, that he could posses his inheritance. Disobedience caused Israel their blessing and inheritance. Many Christians don’t enter into God’s blessing because of their spirit. There’s a kind of spirit that does not enter into God’s rest and heaven. The spirit of sin, rebellion, and disobedience. We need Caleb’s spirit in order to enter into the kingdom of God.

Hebron means union-God’s inheritance is complete union with him. We only find rest when we are in complete union with God.

Joshua is another name of JESUS; Joshua is a type of Christ.

Caleb is a type of the victorious Church. Let us learn about the seven characteristics of Caleb.

1. MAN OF VISION.

• Caleb saw the land as a possession of God’s people.
• He saw Hebron as his inheritance.
• The other ten spies saw in the natural, Caleb saw in the spirit. He had a vision of God.
• Vision is the ability to look at what others are looking at but seeing what others are not seeing.
• “The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one” 1 Corinthians 2:14-15.
• Vision is spiritual discernment, the ability to judge things.
• Caleb had a vision of God. Caleb had a different spirit. God is looking for men and women with this “different spirit.”

2. MAN OF FAITH.

• Numbers 13:30 “Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”
• Numbers 14:9 “Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread, their protection has departed from them and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.”
• Faith reasons from God to the difficulties.
• Unbelief reasons from difficulties to God.
• Faith sees God first, unbelief sees difficulties first.
• Faith sees the victory, faith brings the good report.
• Faith sees with the eyes of God, faith says “I would like to introduce you to God.” Faith brings vision into being. Faith is the victory.

3. MAN OF PERSEVERANCE.

• The doctrine of perseverance of the saints states that God enables all true believers to remain faithful to the end. Those who willfully continue in sin reveal that they were never truly believers.
• Faith needs perseverance. 40 years in the wilderness, living with negative, murmuring people.
• Perseverance comes because we see what God sees.
• It was perseverance that enabled the chameleon, the tortoise and the snail to enter Noah’s ark!!

4. MAN OF ENCOURAGEMENT:

• Caleb spread a good report-we can do it, God is with us.
• During these days of uncertainty what report are you spreading?
• In these last days we are to encourage one another in the Lord. We are also to encourage ourselves.
• The spirit of Caleb is that of an ever ready, prepared man.

5. MAN OF LOYALTY

• Caleb supported Moses, Caleb supported Joshua.
• Caleb was loyal to those God placed over him-Joshua 14:6-13.
• Are you loyal to those God placed over you or you undermine them?

6. MAN OF WAR (Joshua 14:10-12)

• At 85 years of age, Caleb was not afraid of the enemy.
• Caleb taught the descendants of Anak in Deuteronomy 9:2-“Who can stand before the descendants of Anak?”
• Caleb fought the Anak at the harvest place, the biggest giants in the highest place.
• Mountains will fall! Before the blessing is the war.
• Caleb knew that the hand of the Lord is Mighty-Joshua 4:24

7. MAN OF BLESSING(Joshua 15:13-19)

• Caleb gave away the upper and the lower springs of water to Achsah his daughter.
• The springs were more important than the land.
• Caleb was blessed to be a blessing.
• Caleb came into his inheritance then gave it away.
• Joshua 14:6-15 Caleb was a foreigner by birth.

1. Caleb knew a surrendered life-I wholly followed the Lord my God.

• Caleb could say his own affirmation “I wholly followed the Lord God.”
• Moses could say of Caleb “He wholly followed the Lord God (14:9).
• God could say of Caleb “He wholly followed the Lord (14:14).

1. Caleb knew a sustained life (14:10).

• Never be afraid to stand alone, teach your children to stand alone.
• Stand alone even in discouragement, doubt, death (Numbers 14:36-38)

1. Caleb knew the supported life (14:11).
2. Caleb knew the satisfied life (14:13-15) Caleb had spiritual prosperity, material possessions and peace (3 John 1-2).

• At the end of Caleb’s life, the land had rested from war!! Peace was Caleb’s portion-Faith is the victory.

CONCLUSION

• Caleb was a man of altitudes. He was not content with the average or common place.
• Caleb never thought in terms of fences and walled cities.
• It was the heights for Caleb and although the mountain he wanted was filled by hostile Anakites, he refused defeat and claimed his inheritance.
• Caleb had wholehearted anointing, he was consecrated to God. He was full of God.
• Do you desire this different spirit which was in Caleb?
• Surrender your life wholly to the Lord Jesus.
• Receive the anointing-power of the Holy Spirit.
• Be full of God-Let God have his way in you.
• The spirit of Caleb is the spirit of advancement; this spirit was so strong in Caleb that it showed up in His daughter Achsah-“Give me a blessing.”
• Caleb serves as a lesson for us never to release God’s promises; never retire from serving God, never retreat from the enemy.
• If you will fully follow God with your whole heart and depend on His strength alone, you will still be able to thrive at age 85.

• Now surrender your life wholly to the Lord Jesus Christ.
