BREAKTHROUGH ANOINTING

SERIES: THE ANOINTING

TEXT: I CHRONICLES 14:8-17

Today we want to study how to trust God for direction and leading when we are not sure of the way. David was a man after God’s own heart. There was an enduring quality about David. Although he had his faults he still had a heart after God. In the text we see that the Philistines have received word that David has been anointed king over all Israel V.8. However, the Philistines are not pleased about this anointing. They moved quickly to challenge David’s anointed leadership and they are out to get him.

Remember this is the same David who killed Goliath V.8 says, “They mobilized their forces to capture him”

Why did they want to capture David as opposed to killing him?

1. They wanted to capture David to undermine his leadership
2. They wanted to capture David to undermine Israel’s resolve
3. They wanted to capture David to undermine God’s Name.

Listen there is nothing more the enemy had rather do, than to capture the leader.

The anointed breakthrough is what we need in our individual lives, families, marriage, business, profession, church, country and ministry

I believe that you are the anointed of God this morning. God has great things in store for His anointed.

Let us discuss today in these verses that there are things about the anointing of God that I want you to understand.

Let us learn:-

I.  THE ANOINTING BRINGS OPPOSITION (V.8)

1. David is the anointed king of Israel. He is chosen by God and walking in this realm of anointing brings opposition.

• The anointing of God upon your life will bring opposition your way.
• The anointing of God upon your life is a magnetic field for the enemy to come to you.
• David is anointed by God as the king of Israel and all the news is not setting well with the enemy.
• Anointing of God, just like destiny brings opposition
• The brighter the destiny the stronger the forces of darkness will fight you, even before you are born.
• The reason is that David is not only anointed but he is also walking in the anointing
• Perhaps you were anointed in the past, but are you walking in the anointing now? God wants the “now experience”
• Being in church does not make you anointed, only the present touch of God upon your life makes you anointed as you walk in God’s ways.

1. It was this anointing upon David’s life that brought opposition and it is what will bring it in your life also.

• The apostle Paul experienced this opposition time after time in his ministry (I Thess. 2:18)
• Satan prevented Paul, he opposed every move Paul made.
• The anointing of God upon your life will create opposition in your life from the enemy. Expect it.

1. The same anointing upon your life will cause you to rise above the advances of the enemy and bring victory.
2. As Gods’ anointed you are empowered to do exploits for God. (John 14:12)
3. The anointing may bring great exploits for God if you will walk in it.

II.  THE ANOINTING BRINGS DIRECTION (V.10-11)

1. It is interesting to see here what David did in the face of opposition. He went to the source of the anointing?

• David went to God, he remembered his source, he called upon God with specific questions “should I go out to fight the philistines?” will you hand them over to me”
• David did not wait to Miss God!
• The problem with most of us is that we want God to bless our predetermined plans.
• David did not go to God with plans, he went to God for plans.

1. Notice where the Philistines attacked, the valley of Rephaim (V.11)
2. When God gave David the okay to attack, he went to Baal-perazim and defeated them there V.11

• Then David said “God has broken through my enemies by my hand like a breakthrough of water.”
• David called the name of the place Baal-Perazim
• The enemy raided one place (Raphaim) but God sent David to another place to defeat them.
• When you walk in the anointing God directs you. (Psalm37:23)

2. God’s delights in every detail of our lives

• God sent David exactly where he needed to be.

3. The anointing of God will give you direction

• The anointing of God is given by God and God leads and directs His anointed.
• Do you need greater direction in your life – you need greater anointing of God in your life.
• The enemy attacked at Rephaim, but they were defeated at Baal-Perazim.
• God is not only leading into the battle but He is leading you to a place of victory through His anointing.

III.  THE ANOINTING BRINGS VICTORY (V.11-12)

1. David took his men under the anointed direction of God’s to Baal-Perazim and there defeated the Philistines.
2. After the great victory David exclaims “God has done it” He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood”

• He named the place Baal-Perazim which means “the Lord who bursts through”
• The anointing of God burst him through to victory

2. After the great victory the Philistines fled and left their idols behinds and David had them burned and destroyed.

• God wants to give you a “burst-through” anointing and victory.

3. Notice the philistines did not learn their lesson they raided the valley again (V.14-16)

• The way the anointing brings you victory today may not be the same way the anointing will bring you victory tomorrow.
• God saves in a thousand ways, the anointing gave David a strategy for victory. Every battle has its own strategy. God will do what is necessary to ensure your victory
• God changes strategy that is why we should walk in the anointing moment by moment.

CONCLUSION

• The anointing of God will lead you into victory, but you must like David be attuned to God.
• Are you ready for some victories in your walk with God?
• What you need is a fresh touch of God’s anointing in your life.
• Receive today the anointing for breakthrough in every area of your life.
