TEXT: SONG OF SONGS 4:16
INTRODUCTION
Dominion is power, authority or control. As Christians, we are expected to exercise dominion over winds of life. When Jesus Christ rebuked the winds they obeyed. There are various winds on earth and many kinds of spiritual winds in life. Each wind serves a specific purpose. There are good and beneficial winds and there are disastrous and bad winds. The Bible mentions four major winds; the east wind, the west wind, the south wind and the north wind, other winds mentioned in the bible are the whirlwind, Euroclydon, storms, dry wind and the blast and many more. Knowing the role each wind play, gives us knowledge, putting us in a better position to deal with wind-related issues both physically and spiritually as they affect our lives. Remember that God has given us dominion, power and authority over all creation. Joshua commanded the sun and the moon to stop in their courses above. The problem with us is we do not exercise our dominion and authority. This is because God’s dominion depends on our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ made it clear that control, dominion, power and authority is in relationship to God. He rebuked the wind and the sea and said “peace be still, and the wind ceased and there was great calm” (Mark 4:39)
God’s children, out of their relationship with Christ are expected to exercise the same authority. So today let us get to know the winds, their specific roles and how to address them:-
I. THE EAST WIND (PSALM 48:7)
- The east wind is about the most significant and by far the most mentioned in the Bible.
- The east wind is mentioned 19 times, twice as many times as the other three major winds.
- The east wind is very distractive kind of force. Whenever the east wind is mentioned in the Bible, something is being destroyed or put to ruin. (Psalm 48:7)
- The book of Jonah (4:8) speaks of the east wind beating the head of Jonah and destroying the gourd God prepared as shade to protect him.
- Ezekiel talks of the east wind drying up fruits and withering strong rods. (Ezekiel 19:12)
- In (Hosea 12:1) Ephraim followed the east wind, he suffered the desolation.
- In (Job 15:2) a man can fill his belly with the east wind.
- In (Job 27:21) the wicked who fail to acknowledge the Lord will be carried away and removed from their place.
- In (Exodus 10:13) Moses commanded the east wind to bring destructive locusts upon Egypt.
- The seven ears of corn in Pharaoh’s dream were reportedly blasted and thus damaged by the east wind. (Gen 41:6)
- The east wind scatters the enemy or those who disobey God (Jer. 18:17)
- The wind that killed Job’s children was east wind,
- So the east wind, has destructive capacities, originated from the desert, it is used by the Lord to scatter and ruin, the east wind is not to be desired or followed.
PRAY
- Every east wind programmed against my destiny backfire in the name of Jesus Christ.
- I shall not follow the path of the east wind to destruction in the name of Jesus Christ.
II. THE WEST WIND
- This wind is mentioned only once in the Bible (Exodus 10:19)
- It was the west wind that took away the locusts that were brought by the east wind.
- The west wind serves to reverse the destructive effects of the east wind.
PRAY
The west wind of the Lord arise and reverse the evil effects of the east wind in my life – in the Name of Jesus Christ.
III. SOUTH WIND (JOB 37:17)
- The south wind, as revealed in the Bible is a more gentle blowing wind.
- The south wind brings warmth to clothes
- Jesus Christ spoke of the south wind (Luke 12:55)
- Warmth and heat are associated with the south wind.
- In (Acts 23:13) – until this point, the team with apostle Paul lost their sense of purpose and direction.
- It was the south wind that set them back on course.
- In acts (28:13) the south wind blew to bring them to the desired puteoli.
- The south wind is a gentle blowing wind, it brings warmth and heat. It is used by God in relation to location and direction.
PRAY
- Oh, Lord, let your south wind lead me to my divinely destined location.
- South wind of God, blow upon my life and bring warmth and comfort – in the Name of Jesus Christ.
IV. THE NORTH WIND
- This wind is mentioned only once, Song of Solomon (4:16)
- The writer prays for the north wind, combined with the south wind should blow upon his garden, that the spices may flow out.
- The north wind is responsible for the spices within the garden to germinate and produce seed.
- Unlike the east wind which is destructive, the north wind is constructive and desired. It has the power to enhance capacities.
- The north wind causes spices to sprout forth.
- Your untapped potentials require the wind of God to blow across their lives for them to be fruitful
PRAY
- North wind of God, blow across the garden of my life in the Name of Jesus.
- Oh, Lord, let the garden of my life experience your wind of good fortune that will cause it to produce pleasant fruits in the name of Jesus.
V. OTHER WINDS
- The tempest is a destructive wind in the sea of life (Job 9:17, Job 27:20, Isa 54:11)
- Blast, God uses the blast to scare enemies (2 Sam 22:16, Isa 37:7)
- The storm is also destructive it creates destruction ( Luke 8:23)
- Whirlwind – it scatters away as well as raptures (Zechariah 7:14, 2Kings 2:11, Job 38:1, Jer. 30:23)

- Dominion, rule, authority and power is with the children of God (Job 22:28)
CONCLUSION AND PRAYER
- The whirlwind of God arise and bring forth my blessings.
- Let the camp of the enemies of my divine progress scatter in Jesus Name.
- I silence every wind blowing contrary to my life. Any evil programmed against my destiny, you shall not prosper in Jesus Name.
