FINAL TEACHINGS AND PRAYER

SERIES: EVENTS LEADING TO THE CRUCIFIXION.

TEXT: JOHN 17:1-26.

INTRODUCTION

Our Lord Jesus, the greatest teacher of all and our Savior, spoke of important things as He was ending His 3 years earthly ministry. The disciples could not understand some of the things He told them, that time, they came to understand them later after His resurrection, others after ascension. Some of the teachings He gave that time, and prayers.

FATHER, I HAVE BROUGHT YOU GLORY ON EARTH-LUKE 17:4.

  • The will of the Lord was completely lost in the will of the father. John 8:29 says “The one who sent me is with me, He has not left me alone for I always do the things that please Him. His life glorified the father. He was tempted at all points just as we are, yet without sin-Heb. 4:15.
  • John 12:49, The father, who sent me gave me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.
  • Matthew 20:20, when the mother of the disciples John and James, sons of Zebedee, asked the Lord to make her sons sit on his right and on his left in His kingdom, He replied that it was not even Him who should decide who sits where, but He wants the father to decide.
  • John 17:5, he talked to the father in the presence of all that they can know that it was the father who did the works of healing etc.

“FATHER GLORIFY ME WITH THE GLORY I HAD WITH YOU”

  • John 1:1-3, He was God in the beginning and all things were made through Him.
  • Our Lord Jesus had the glory with the father before the world was. He lost glory when He took the nature of a human body.
  • He left His glory in heaven for the cross of Calvary.
  • Philippians 2:7, He humbled Himself and He made Himself nothing. He made Himself of no reputation, taking the very nature of a servant. He became obedient to the father even unto death.
  • John 7:39, God glorified Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit was given.
  • Our Lord Jesus was given back the glory He had before the foundation of the world. Now He is glorified.

TO THE DISCIPLES “I APPOINT TO YOU A KINGDOM-LUKE 22:28-30.

As He concluded His earthly ministry, He decided to appreciate the good work that His disciples had done. They had been with Him through tough times and beared with Him many problems that He went through. The Lord is a rewarder. Whatever you do for Him, He pays and He pays well. He told His disciples that in His kingdom, they are the ones who will have the privilege to sit at the table with Him.

  • Luke 5:1-6, the word says that when he had used Peter’s boat to preach from it, after using it, He rewarded Peter. Our Lord Jesus is a rewarder. When He uses you for his work, He will pay you generously.
  • Hebrews 6:10, For the Lord is not unjust to forget the good work that you have done for Him.

CONCLUSION

  • Our Lord’s will was lost in the will of the father, may our will be lost to Him through the Holy Spirit.
  • Serve the Lord diligently, He is a generous rewarder.
  • Everything we do in life should glorify the Lord as our Lord Jesus glorified God.
