JESUS CHRIST IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

SERIES: THE DEITY OF CHRIST

Jesus Christ our Lord did not just start  living when He was born in Bethlehem. In the Old Testament, Christ used to appear from time to time. We see Jesus being worshipped in the Old Testament. Cases of Jesus appearing in the Old Testament:-

CHRIST APPEARS AS MELCHIZEDEK- Gen. 14:14-20

• Melchizedek was king and was also a priest. Normally in the Bible one could be either a priest a priest or a king but not both.
• Abraham gave Melchizedek his tithe. This was a form of worship.

CHRIST APPEARS TO ABRAHAM IN HIS HOME- Gen. 18:10-22

• Three men appeared to Abraham on their way to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah.
• One man had power to say when Sarah wife of Abraham, would conceive and have a son- Gen. 18:10.
• The man had authority whether to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah or not- Gen. 18:24-33.
• Only two men entered Sodom and Gomorrah- these were two Angels.

CHRIST APPEARS TO GEDION- Judges 6:12-21

• Christ appeared to Gideon and spoke to him about delivering Israel from the enemy.
• Gideon brought a sacrifice to the angel of the Lord (Christ). The Angel of the Lord accepted the sacrifice of Gedion. This angel of the Lord was Christ.

CHRIST DELIVERED ISRAEL FROM EGYPT- Jude 5.

• Jesus Christ delivered Israelites from the land and slavery, Egypt.

CHRIST WALKS IN FIRE WITH MESHACK, SHADRACK AND ABEDNEGO- Daniel 3:19-25

• The king threw three men into the fire that was heated seven times more.
• When the king looked, he saw a fourth man in the fire who looked like the son of the gods. This was Jesus Christ.

CHRIST APPEARS TO JOSHUA IN JERICHO- Joshua 5:13-15

• The angel of the Lord appeared to Joshua.
• Joshua did not know who the man was.
• The angel of the Lord told Joshua to remove his shoes and worship. Joshua obeyed. This man was Jesus Christ.

CHRIST WRESTLES WITH JACOB- Gen. 32:22-31

• The angel of the Lord appeared to Jacob on his way back to Israel.
• The angel wrestled with Jacob.
• The angel changed the name of Jacob to Israel and blessed Jacob.
• The angel of the Lord was Jesus Christ.

 

CONCLUSION

• Jesus Christ existed even before he was born in Bethlehem.
