SERIES: THROUGH THE BOOK OF EPHESIANS
TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:1, 21-24.
The word of God instructs us to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which we have been called-Vs. 1. It is one thing to start a race and another thing to finish. The wife of Lot was saved from one calamity but she was destroyed by another-Gen. 19:26.
One must run according to the rules of a race in order to qualify for a reward. We were once alienated from God. He called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. He called us to His kingdom to belong to the kingdom.
The kingdom has a king, structures of governance and rules of running the kingdom. So we have to live by the rules we find in the kingdom, we cannot bring our own rules to the kingdom.
It’s a privilege to be enrolled into the kingdom. So the Bible tells us to walk in a manner worthy of the calling. How we should live after conversion:-
TO PUT OFF YOUR OLD SELF-Eph. 4:22
- You have the ability to put off your old manner of life. God cannot ask you to do something that He knows you are unable to do.
- The old self, the man keeps on wanting to came back.
- The old self was corrupt through deceitful desires.
- Romans 12:1-2.
- Reward of the mind. God is at work to conform us to the imagine of His dear son progressively.
- There is God’s work to do and there is our part of work to do-to work out our salvation with fear and trembling- 2:2. This shows the seriousness of the Christian living. This does not mean nervousness and anxiety but reverence, but a healthy fear of offending God through disobedience and an awe and respect for His majesty and holiness. Joseph was diligent in obeying God. To confront sin he, “How can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?”-Gen. 39:9.
- Do not be conformed to this world. Satan is at work through the world, to conform you to the patterns and systems of the world-Rom. 12:1.
- Be transformed/changed by the renewal of your minds-Rom. 12:2.
- We must put on a new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness-Eph. 4:24.
EMBRACE HUMILITY AND GENTLENESS-Eph. 4:2.
- Humility is the condition of being humble, modest opinion or estimate of one’s own importance. Apostle Paul in humility says he does not wish that anyone should think more highly of him than one sees-2 Cor. 12:6. He also says, “I will boast of my weakness.
- Moses the very great servant of God was the meekest, most humble man on the earth-Numbers 12:3. God loved him greatly and talked to him directly. Humility goes before honor-Prov. 18:12.
- Gentleness, is part of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Gentleness is kindly not severe, rough or violent.
WE SHOULD BE EAGER TO MAINTAIN CHRISTIAN UNITY-Eph. 4:3.
- Unity is strength. When us believers love one another and are united, the body of Jesus Christ will be strong. Selfishness has no place in the Christian faith.
- We should be eager to love one another as believers and associate with the lowly-Rom. 12:16. Class awareness should not be given chance in the body of Jesus Christ, as it happens in the world.
CONCLUSION
- Work out your salvation with fear and trembling-Phil. 2:12. Be renewed in mind.
