RESPONDING TO THE PROPHETIC

SERIES: THE SCHOOL OF PROPHECY.

TEXT: 1st THESSALONIANS 5:19-21

Today let us continue to understanding of the prophetic anointing before we get deeper into the subject of prophecy.

CONFIRM THE WORD.

  • If it is a major life changing one, make sure it is confirmed.
  • Confirmation could be by another prophecy, a scripture or something similar which clearly reflects the will of God for you.
  • Make sure that other witnesses are independent and neutral.

PREPARE YOURSELF.

  • Prophesies are always conditional.
  • A prophetic word that has been confirmed will come to pass as long as you understand that there is a process that must be followed and implemented.
  • When you receive a prophecy you must do your part to be effective.
  • Ask the Lord to reveal any prerequisites that must be accomplished before the word can be fulfilled.
  • 2nd Timothy 1:6, “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of hands.”

WRITE DOWN YOUR PROPHESIES-Habakkuk 2:2.

“Then the Lord answered me and said, write the vision and make it plain on tablets that he may run who reads it.”

  • So that a herald may run with it.
  • God moves slowly-Habakkuk 2:3, “For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
  • Evil and injustice seem to have the upper hand in the world.
  • Like Habakkuk, Christians often feel angry and discouraged as they see what goes on.
  • God’s word to us is “Be patient, I will work my plan out in my perfect time.”
  • God is telling Habakkuk and us also “wait for it.”
  • To trust God fully means to trust Him even when we do not understand why events occur as they do.

PRAY YOUR PROPHESIES INTO MANIFESTATION.

  • Even when you have received a dream, a vision or a prophecy, you must pray for your prophesies to come to pass.
  • 1st Timothy 1:18-“This charge I commit to you son Timothy, according to the prophesies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare.”
  • Paul highly valued the gift of prophecy-1st 14:1.
  • Through prophecy important messages of warning had been given to the church to encourage and to warn.
  • Timothy was challenged by Paul to pray that the prophesies made upon his life by the elders of the church who laid their hands on him may come to pass upon his life.
  • You must pray that the good prophesies made upon your life may come to pass.

STUDY THE WORD-Joshua 1:8.

  • The prophecy of success for Joshua was conditional to Joshua studying in the word.
  • “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, you shall meditate in it day and night that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.”
  • Fellowship with the Holy Spirit. 1st John 2:20, “But you have an anointing from the Holy Spirit and you know all things.”
  • Do not be over cautious-1st 5:19-21, “Do not quench the spirit. Do not despise prophesies, test all things, hold fast what is good.”
  • Submit to God-1st Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking who he may devour”-Hebrews 13:17.
  • Live by faith-2nd Kings 4:3.
  • A prophetic word means there is a process-Matt. 22:14, “Many are called but few are chosen.”

THE PURPOSE OF THE PROPHETIC.

  • The main purpose of prophecy is to encourage and edify the body of Christ.
  • Through prophetic word, believers can be assured how much God loves them and how variable they are to Him.
  • God longs to communicate with His children. He specifically created us with ears to hear His voice.
  • “The hearing ear and seeing eye, the Lord has made them both”-Proverbs 20:12.
  • God longs for an intimate relationship with each one of us.

CONCLUSION

  • We must understand the prophetic and respond to prophecy accordingly.
  • God wants each one of His children to prophesy.
