SICK MARRIAGES NEED DELIVERANCE.

SERIES:  MY GOD IS MY DELIVERER.

TEXT: GENESIS 2:18-25.

Our God is a God of Deliverance. He delivers us from all situations including when our marriages are sick. Today we would be looking at reasons why marriages become sick, signs of a sick marriage and the ways of dealing successfully with a sick marriage. The marriage Institution was created by God. It was the first institution created by God. It is older than the family itself, older than the church, the school. Marriage is something from the heart of God; God was the first officiating minister of a wedding. Therefore, marriage is the first human Institution ordained by God. The Bible begins with a wedding and ends with another wedding. There are five main principles to be followed for this Institution to be successful. Failure to follow all these five principles will result in sickness and death of marriage. Nowadays, many marriages are sick, many marriages are marriages of convenience, devoid of Love and mutual respect. There are even Christian homes where couples fight day and Night. Marriages counsellors are amazed by marital violence and child abuse in many families today. Many Young people are heard confessing openly that if this how husband beat their wives and wives beat their husbands, they will not marry. Unfortunately, half of the children are born to unwedded mothers, so the evil circle continues over and over. All through the ages, the family has been the most assaulted institution by Satan, Even witches and wizards hate marriage with perfect hatred.

Let us learn:-

I.  GOD’S PURPOSE FOR MARRIAGE.

• Marriage is God’s idea. God designed marriage to be a lifetime commitment between one man and one woman.
• God designed marriage to be the first system of Interdependent relationship.
• God designed the marriage relationship as the primary relationship of the family.
• Pursuing God’s design for marriage is essential in fulfilling God’s purpose for mankind.
• Oneness in marriage is being in agreement with God’s will and purposes.
• There are three purposes for marriage.

1. To mirror God’s Image –(Genesis 1:26-27).

• God made man kind to mirror His Image on planet earth.
• God made two distinctly different humans (male and female) so that together they would reflect the Image of God.
• Their unity and oneness reflects the character and unity of God.
• Their oneness results in carrying out the work of God.
• Couples who mirror God’s Image experience Oneness with their creator.

2. To mutually complete one another. (Genesis 2:18, I Corinthians 11:11).

• God made husband and wife to need each other.
• Interdependence causes a husband and wife to become a team together.
• Oneness is developed as a couples mutually completes each other.

3. To multiply a godly heritage (Gen. 1:28)

• God created men and women as his ambassadors who would glorify him on earth.
• Marriage provides the divine context for having children.
• Oneness in marriage is necessary in order to multiply a godly.
• Women are not made emotionally, spiritually or physically to raise children by themselves.
• The roles of husband and wife can best be understood of these roles in the home by their parents.
• A child’s best hope for understanding unconditional love is oneness demonstrated between the husband and wife in the home.
• God’s purposes for marriage are challenged by satanic forces.

II.  FIVE MAIN PRINCIPLES TO BE FOLLOWED FOR A SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGE.

• If any of these rules are contravened, the marriage will become sick and or die.

1. Genesis 2:24, “therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother.

• The first rule is for the man to leave his father and mother.
• God demands that after a wedding ceremony, when the marriage covenant is in force, the man should be separated from his parents and should go and live with his wife.
• There are many men and women who even though they are married are tied to the strings of the fathers or mother’s aprons.
• Marriages that are controlled by parents will be sick marriage.
• The Bible does not give you permission to remain in your family house after marriage.
• If you remain there the marriage will become sick, this is because such marriage contravenes God’s word.
• It is better for the man and his wife to go for one single room than stay is the family mansion house.
• The only way a married couple can remain in the family house and the marriage will not be sick is when the man is the only child of his parents, who are dead and the house has been willed to him.

2. “And shall cleave unto his wife and they shall be one flesh (Gen 2:24)

• The second rule is that there must be a cleaving.
• The couple must stay together under one roof.
• In some marriages, the husband would travel abroad for 5-10 years leaving the wife behind.
• Such arrangement makes a marriage sick.
• Any kind of jobs or studies that takes a husband or wife away for years should be strongly discouraged.

3. Genesis 2:24, “therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife.”

• The bible does not say “cleave to his wives”
• God’s blue print for marriage is monogamy or one man one wife.
• Polygamy is not permitted in the Bible

4. Genesis 2:25, “and they were both naked, the man and his wife and were not ashamed.”

• There must be unity and intimacy.
• There should be no privacy between husband and wife, only transparency.
• There should be nothing to hide and nothing to be ashamed of.

5. Ephesians 5:23, “for the husband is the head of the wife, even a Christ is the head of the church and he is the savior of the body.”

• The headship of the home belongs to the husband.
• The wife is the helpmeet for the man.
• The wife is not a house girl or harlot, or concubine or a slave servant but help meet for him.

III.  SIGNS OF A SICK MARRIAGES

• If a marriage is sick there will be lack of togetherness and oneness.
• There will be accusations and coveter accusations.
• There will be fault finding and blame shifting
• When day to day quarrels in a family has to be reported to a third party, the marriage is sick.
• Third parties to a marriage include in-laws, religious leaders, family friends etc.
• When a couple cannot settle a quarrel by themselves, it means the sickness has set in.
• When the couple stops communicating, no talking, listening and understanding the marriage is very sick.
• When a couple maintains separate rooms, avoiding each other, the marriage is very sick.
• Sexual pervasion is another sign of a sick marriage, when a couple engage in oral and anal sex and all manner of pornographic acts the marriage is very sick.

IV.  DELIVERANCE AND WAY OUT

• The couple should surrender to Jesus Christ for salvation.
• Invite God into their marriage and family.
• Intensify the fire at the family alter of prayer.
• Do not allow any family dispute to go beyond a day, settle disputes before you go to bed.
• Accept your fault when you are wrong and confess your sin to one another.
• Forgiveness should be asked for any freely and unconditionally given.
• Ask the Lord in sincere prayer for deliverance of the marriage and healing.

V.  PRAYER POINTS

1. Every evil marital working against my life, scatter, in the Name of Jesus Christ.
2. Arrow of deliverance, enter into my marriage now – in the Name of Jesus.
3. Every poison of marital failure in my life, come out now-in Jesus Name.
4. Heavenly father deliver and heal my marriage – in Jesus Name.
