THANK GOD FOR THE BLOOD OF JESUS

SERIES: LIVING BY FAITH.

TEXT: HEBREWS 9:1-15.

The Bible is a book of blood. The Bible is different from all other books for just one reason-it has blood circulating through every page and every verse. From the Genesis to Revelation we see a scarlet stream of blood. The Bible is a book of redemption and the color of redemption is red.

In Hebrews 9:1-11, speaks of a time when millions of litres of blood were send to cover the sins of the people. Yet sin was only covered over year after year, on the Day of Atonement.

What the blood of bulls, goats and lambs could not do, the blood of Jesus has done-forgiveness of sin. Let us see what the blood of Jesus Christ does to everyone who trust Him by faith. “Thank God for the blood of Jesus.” Let us learn:-

THE PURCHASE OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS-Heb. 9:12.

A precious purchase.

• The reason why the Old Testament sacrifices could not save was due to the nature and character of the blood that was shed.
• The blood that was shed was the blood of animals!!
• However, sin had been introduced into the world by one man-Romans 5:12.
• Salvation from sin depended on the sacrifice of an innocent man.
• Jesus Christ went to Calvary as the Lamb of God.
• Jesus Christ shed pure, precious sinless blood-1^st Peter 1:18-19.
• The blood of Jesus was of the character that could satisfy the just demands of a Holy God-Isaiah 53:11.

A personal purchase.

• It was “His own blood.”
• Jesus Christ, the son of God and the son of man was the pure Lamb of God-Phil. 2:5-11.
• The pain of the cross was the price for our salvation-Isaiah 53:4-6; Rom. 5:8.

A permanent purchase.

• “Having obtained” means “Once and for all time action.”
• The word “eternal” means “abiding, constant, unending, eternal.”
• The word “redemption” means “to release after the payment of a ransom price after which the captive is forever delivered from all guilt and punishment.”
• The salvation Jesus provides and the redemption the saints enjoy is eternal redemption-Heb. 9:25-28; John 6:37-40.
• If you are saved, you are saved forever!!
• The blood of Jesus Christ takes away the sins of the sinner forever-John 1:29.
• Thank God for the blood of Jesus Christ.

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS-Heb. 9:13-14.

Power to cleanse.

• The word “purge” means “to cleanse and free from filth.” It is like cleansing of the lepers.
• The blood of bulls, goats and lambs could not clean the stains of sin, but only covered.
• The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses the sinner completely-Rev. 1:5; 1^st John 1:7.
• Those who are born-again are “justified,” declared right with God-1^st 6:9-11.
• The multitudes in Revelation 7 had washed their robes in the blood of the lamb.
• The blood is a cleansing agent from sin.

Power to change.

• When the blood of Jesus Christ is applied it purges the conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
• The “conscience” is that part of you that has the power to choose between right and wrong.
• When you are born again you experience change of heart that leads to change of lifestyle.
• The sacrifices in the Old Testament could not change a person-2^nd 5:17; Eph. 2:10.
• After the person (O.T) left the tabernacle, he was the same person that entered the tabernacle.
• But whosoever meets Jesus Christ the person is made a new creature-2^nd Peter 1:4.

Power to claim.

• The blood of Jesus makes us children of God-Eph. 2:11-17’ 1^st 6:19-20.
• If you are saved you are owned by Jesus Christ.
• There is a wonder working power in the blood of Jesus.
• Thank God for the blood of Jesus.

THE PROMISE OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS-Heb. 9:15.

The promise of freedom.

• We are freed from bondage and freed to live for God.
• When a sinner places his faith in the blood of Jesus Christ for salvation that sinner is given a brand new life and a fresh new start-John 3:3, 7; 1^st Peter 1:23.
• The redeemed sinner is reckoned dead with Christ at Calvary and alive in Christ through His resurrection-Gal. 2:20.
• The old life is gone forever-Psalm 103:12; Isa. 43:25; Isa. 38:17; Jer. 50:20; Micah 7:19.

The promise of a future.

• The blood of Jesus Christ promises us a future in heaven-Rom. 8:14-17; 1^st Peter 1:3-5.
• We have the assurance through His blood that we have a place in heaven-John 14:1-3.
• There is no other way of entering that city but through the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

CONCLUSION

• The Bible is a bloody book and our faith is a bloody faith!!
• Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power?
• Are you really saved? Do you remember a day and a time when you got saved?
• What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
• Thank God for the blood of Jesus.
