THE ANOINTING FOR DIVINE CONSOLIDATION

SERIES: THE ANOINTING

TEXT: LUKE 4:18-19

God has given every believer in Christ the anointing when he/she got filled with the Holy Spirit. The anointing is meant for great exploits in the kingdom of God, however, we must avoid actions and altitudes that can destroy the anointing. The anointing comes through the person of the Holy Spirit. In order to experience divine consolidation in your life, you need to release yourself for a health fellowship with the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit is the originator of the anointing. Remember the anointing in the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit himself dwells in our Spirit, so we have the anointing within us already (I John 2:20, 27)

The anointing is not for selected fees, as long as we have the Holy Spirit, then we have one anointing. Now, if you are a true believer in Christ you already possess the Holy Spirit. The anointing is however, when you let the Holy Spirit possess you. Not every believer is possessed by the Holy Spirit. Let us learn:-

I.  DESCRIBING THE ANOINTING

• This anointing is God’s ability to fulfill the purpose that He has ordained or called each one of us into.
• There is a purpose for every church and for every Christian. God does not create or call people for the fun of it. God has a purpose for everyone.
• It is possible that some people have not discovered the purpose or the calling of God in their lives.
• However, that does not mean that God did not have purpose for such people.
• The anointing is the grace that God made available unto us in order to be able to achieve that purpose and that calling that He has called us into (Acts 8:18-22)
• The converted magician attempted to buy the anointing, but his action was greatly condemned by the apostle.
• The anointing is the hand of God upon a natural man that will make him to do supernatural things (I Sam. 17:34-37)
• David was able to kill the lion and the bear because the anointing of God was upon him.

II.  DIVINE CONSOLIDATION BY THE ANOINTING

• The anointing will enable a man to do so many things he could not do or make it easier for him to do. It will bring about divine consolidation in our lives by enabling us;

1. To be able to discern truth (I John 2:27), and to testify of the truth (I John 5:6)
2. To be able to pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayer and requests (Rom 8:39, Eph. 6:18)
3. To live a righteous life and please God in all our conversations (Rom 8:4)
4. To be strengthened with power in your inner being. (Eph 3:16) and to be led by God (Rom. 8:9)
5. To live in joy (Rom. 14:17) and to live in hope (Rom 15:13)
6. To receive spiritual gifts (I Cor. 24:4) and to bear spiritual fruit (Gal 5:22-23)

• It is the anointing that opens your mind, teaches you, guides you, calls you to pray, and empowers you. Just because you are saved, does not necessary make you strong. We need to be indwelt and empowered.

III.  DESTROYING THE ANOINTING

• There are certain things we need to deal with which are disallowed in our lives if we must receive and maintain the anointing, they include:

1. A critical Spirit

• There is nothing that will kill a church, a family, or a revival faster than a critical Spirit getting into the hearts and minds of a congregation. Any family can die when critical Spirit crops up.
• We need to be careful about the things that we say so that we will only be building people and not tearing them apart.
• We need to be positive about our family, our church, our pastors, leaders and our outlook in life.
• Critical Spirit and criticism can destroy the anointing

2. Marital problems

• This is not just the normal day to day misunderstandings (which are normal even in best of marriages), but the extreme arguing, bitterness and anger against one another (Malachi 2:15)
• Take heed to your spirit! Why did prophet Malachi say this? Because if you mistreat and disrespect your spouse, it will destroy your anointing on your lives. (I Peter 3:7)
• We must deal with the spirit of unforgiveness in our lives to be able to have marital harmony

3. Depression (Lack of joy) Phil 4:6-7

• If you are walking around and always seeing the bad in life, then it will destroy the anointing in your life.
• We should culture real joy in our lives by praising God, for every situation and trust God for His intervention.

4. Pride and stubbornness (I Sam 15:23)

• We ought to follow the humidity of our Lord Jesus Christ because, pride, stubbornness and arrogance will put a man down and destroy the anointing in his life.

5. Unrighteousness

• All forms of sexual sins and ungodly behavior will grieve the Holy Spirit, destroying the anointing in a man’s life.
• Samson lost the anointing because of sexual sins and ungodly behavior.

IV.  HOW TO RECEIVE THE ANOINTING

• Be sure you are saved (John 1:12)
• Be sure you confess every known sin in your life (I John 1:7-9)
• Be sure you are filled by the Holy Spirit by faith (Eph 5:18)
• Walk in the Spirit and know your rights as a child of God (Gal 5:16-18)
• Live by faith

CONCLUSION

• If you have received the anointing, you need to cherish it and guard it, lest you loose it.
• When you walk in the anointing, yokes will be destroyed (Isa 10:27)
• David with the anointing defeated the giant called Goliath. Paul with the anointing cast out devils (Acts 16:17-18)
• Peter under the anointing preached and 3000 got saved
• Jesus Christ with the anointing fed the 5000, raised the dead, healed the sick, cleansed the lepers, opened blind eyes, came out of the grave on the third day.
• By the anointing you and I can do exploits in our generation to for the kingdom of God.
• You may receive the anointing today.
