THE CRY FOR FRESH OIL

SERIES: REVIVAL TIMES.

TEXT: PSALM 92:10

The cry for fresh oil is a cry for more of God’s presence, power and divine enablement.

Without fresh oil the believer becomes weak and in effective. The good news is that God is willing to pour fresh oil upon those who hunger for Him.

Psalm 92:10—“You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox fine oils have been poured on me.”

Oil in the Bible is often symbolic of the Holy Spirit divine empowerment and consecration. It signifies the presence of God upon a person’s life for service, victory and supernatural exploits.

When David was anointed by Samuel the spirit of the Lord came upon Him mighty-(1st Samuel 16:13) Similarly Jesus was anointed with the Holy spirit and power –(Acts 10:38) enabling Him to fulfill His divine mission.

However anointing is not a one experience. It must be renewed continually. Just as fresh oil is needed to keep a lamp burning believers need fresh oil to remain effective in their spiritual walk and ministry. Without fresh oil stagnation spiritual, dryness and ineffectiveness set in. Let us see why fresh oil is necessary, the signs of lacking fresh oil and how to receive a fresh outpouring from God:-

WHY FRESH OIL IS NECESSARY.

To maintain spiritual relevance.

  • Without fresh oil a believer loses effectiveness in their calling—(Eccl. 10:1).

To overcome the attacks of the enemy.

  • Satan targets those who lack fresh anointing –(Ephesians 6:10-11).

To stay spiritually active and fruitful.

  • Fresh oil empowers a believer for greater impact—(John 15:5).

To avoid spiritual dryness and burnout.

  • Without fresh oil, spiritual life becomes routine and powerless-(Isaiah 40:31).

Biblical example of fresh oil anointing:-

  • David continuous anointing kept him relevant.
  • David was anointed three times, showing the need for fresh empowerment–(1st Samuel 16:13; 2 Samuel 2:4; 2nd Samuel 5:3).
  • David was ever being anointed directly by God—(Psalm 23:5)

SIGNS THAT YOU NEED FRESH OIL:

Loss of passion for God and His work.

  • A decline in zeal for prayer, worship and service signals dryness—(Romans 12:11)

Struggling in spiritual warfare.

  • Weakness in overcoming sin and the enemy shows a need for a renewal –(Ephesians 6:12-13).

Lack of spiritual discernment.

  • Fresh oil sharpens discernment without discernment, confusion increases-(1 John 2:27)
  1. Reduced impact in ministry and witnessing when results diminish, fresh oil is required-(Acts 1:8).
  2. The foolish virgins ran out of oil and missed the bridegroom –(Matt. 25:1-4).

HOW TO RECEIVE FRESH OIL.

Return to the place of prayer and fasting.

  • Fresh oil comes through seeking God earnestly –(Acts 4:31)

Spend time in God’s word.

Stay connected to the Holy Spirit.

Live a life of Holiness and consecration.

CONCLUSION.

  • If we desire to walk in victory and impact lives and fulfill our divine purpose we must continually seek fresh oil.
  • May our hearts always long for more of God’s presence and may we never run dry in Jesus Name.

PRAYER:

  • Lord, anoint me with fresh oil and renew my strength in Jesus Name.
  • Father, let every dryness in my spiritual life be removed in Jesus Name.
