ISAIAH 61:1-11, LUKE 4:18-19

INTRODUCTION

The goal of our message this morning is to present all the benefits of the gospel. Few believers in Christ have seen the vision of the fullness of the gospel. The gospel of Jesus Christ includes so many blessings that only faith can access them. These benefits are listed in Isaiah 61. First of all the preacher of good news needs the Spirit of God to possess him through the anointing. Anointing means receiving power from on high. The gospel is not mere words or just dogma, but a demonstration of the Spirit power. Today we have too much theology but little power.

Let us learn:-

I.  OUR COVENANT RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES THAT THE GOSPEL BRINGS.

  1. First of all the word gospel means good news.
  • Good news means Joy; the first blessing of the gospel is joy. This joy comes to the meek- the afflicted.
  • Those who live without Christ are severely afflicted, they are sad, you can see the sadness in their eyes.
  • The first and foremost blessings that the gospel affords you is joy.
  • “For the kingdom of God (gospel) does not consist in foods and drink, but joy in the Holy Spirit” (Rom.14:17)
  1. Second, The gospel also includes internal healing.
  • Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted.
  • Maybe other people have broken your heart.
  • People have hurt you deeply, you are depressed.
  • Jesus came to heal you. Inner healing is wholeness or happiness. Heartbreak is always internal.
  • The meek or affliction is external.
  • Jesus Christ came to heal the internal wounds in your heart.
  • Jesus came to heal you from depression and misery.
  • Jesus Christ brings joy, happiness. Outside of Christ, there is no joy and happiness at all.
  • Jesus Christ gives the anointing of joy (v.3)
  1. Thirdly, Jesus Christ came to bring liberty.
  • The gospel is liberty from sin, you are no longer the miserable sinner, but a saint.
  • Through the blood of Christ and His death on the cross, you were set free from sin. You used to be a slave of sin but now you are set free from sin.
  • You are also set free from the curse of sin and the law.
  • This is also liberty from the bondage of sickness, “By His stripes we were healed” (Isa.53)
  • Healing is the right of every child of God.
  1. Fourthly, Jesus Christ came to give sight to the blind.
  • Man’s greatest enemy is ignorance, “my people perish for lack of vision”
  • He came to give us light (John 1:6-13)
  1. Jesus came to announce and declare the year of jubilee.
  • The acceptable year of the Lord (v.2)
  • This is not a literal year but an age. The age of grace.
  • Grace is the gospel and kingdom of God.
  • You are eternally accepted in Christ Jesus.
  • You don’t have to perform to people any more.

II.  THE GOD THAT DELIVERS.

  • If there is one thing that the Bible is absolutely clear on, it is that God is a deliverer, no matter the captivity.
  • There are many kinds of captivities.
  • There is spiritual captivity, emotional, mental and there is the captivity of the flesh (Habits), bondages, addictions, lust and desires that hold lives in captivity.
  • There is captivity of sickness and disease
  • There is captivity of poverty and lack.
  • There is captivity of fear and rejection.
  • There is captivity of unforgiveness and of the wounded heart (Luke 4:18-19)
  • There is no captivity or bondage that cannot be broken by the anointed word (Isa.49:25)
  • Don’t tell me of a God that can save your soul from hell, but can’t deliver you from nicotine, alcohol, drugs and sex addictions.
  • Don’t tell me of blood that can redeem your soul, but can’t heal your wounded heart and save you from unforgiveness, bitterness and rejection.
  • Don’t tell me about a Jesus who can save your soul but cannot deliver your mind from tormenting power of the enemy.
  • Let us hear testimonies from Daniel, 3 Hebrew boys, Paul and Silas, David (Psalm 18:7), Peter.
  • The woman with the issue of blood.
  • Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever.

III.  BEAUTY FOR ASHES.

  • The blessing of beauty, the gospel beautifies you.
  • The drug addict becomes clean, the lazy becomes hardworking. The violent become compassionate. The sour becomes heavenly sweet.
  • The homosexual becomes straight and sensible.
  • With the gospel, we no longer live in shame but exalted in Jesus Christ.
  • The gospel includes the garment of praise and celebration (Phil.4:4)
  • The gospel makes trees of righteousness.

IV.  STRANGER WILL FEED YOUR FAMILY (V.5)

  • You will always be the head and never the tail. The leader not a tail. We are called to be the presidents, governors etc. we are God’s representatives on earth.
  • We shall eat the wealth of the gentiles, “This is financial prosperity- God does not want you poor, you cannot serve God with poverty.

CONCLUSION

  • God is glorified the most in our wellbeing! His glory is to be our enjoyment.
  • This is the full gospel. Everything we need is given to us in Christ. Christ is your humility, patience, love, joy, peace, goodness, gentleness and self-control.
  • Do you believe in the full gospel? I bet you do.
