THE GOD WHO SEES

GENESIS 16:1-16

INTRODUCTION

Hagar was so amazed that God cared, so she called His name “EL-RO-I”  “Thou God sees me” she named the well “Beerlahairoi”. The well of the living One that sees me. Let us learn

I.  THE CERTAINTY OF HIS OMNISCIENCE

  • Omniscience means “possessing total knowledge, knowing everything about everything.
  1. In His person – because of who He is.
  • The Greeks call God “Theos” the One who sees.
  1. In His presence – because of where He is
  • Psalm 139:7-10, Prov. 15:3
  1. In his power – because of what He does
  • God is not disconnected from His creation
  • Matt 10:29
  1. In His purposes because He knows the future.
  • Isa 46:10
  • A God who plans all things is sorely able to know all things.

II.  THE CONSEQUENCES OF HIS OMNISCIENCE

  1. His knowledge is personal “sees me” as if there were no other people.
  2. Perfect – “sees me”
  • God sees you entirely, completely without and within at the same time
  1. Persistent – God sees and always sees
  • Isa 29:15, Jer. 23:24
  1. Precise – “sees me” this implies absolute sight (Psalm 139:1-3)

III.  THE COMFORT OF HIS OMNISCIENCE

  1. He sees the supplicant – Hagar was on the run. (Isa.65:24, Jer. 33:3, Rom 8:26-27)
  2. He sees the sufferer – Hagar is suffering
  • She has been rejected, abused and abandoned.
  1. He sees the slandered
  • Hagar had been slandered
  1. He sees the sinner – Hagar was a sinner by birth, heathen, pagan, a sinner, yet the eye of God was upon her (Luke 15:20)

IV.  TO THOSE WHO ARE USED OR ABUSED

The name EL ROL tell us;

  1. That God sees us.
  2. That God does not discriminate
  • God is the God of the downtrodden, the lowly and insignificant people.
  • God does not make a distinction between people based upon their gender or colour
  1. That God knows the entire plan
  • Have you been mistreated as Hagar was?
  • Have you been blamed for something that was someone else’s fault?
  • Have you ever been used by someone else?
  • If so, you need to know God as El ROI
  • He sees the terrible things that happen to you.

CONCLUSION

When you are mistreated or are going through a bad situation, remember that God knows all and is watching over you. Amen.
