THE SECRET PLACE: FINDING GOD’S PRESENCE

SERIES: NEARER MY GOD TO THEE.”

TEXT: PSALM 91:1-2.

The secret place is not a mystical idea-It is the real, living presence of God that we can experience daily.  The secret place is where our spirits are nourished, our minds are renewed and our hearts are transformed.

The “secret place” is not merely a physical location, It is a spiritual dimension where divine encounters take place. It is the sacred space where distractions are silenced and the voice of God becomes clear.

Every believer has access to this secret place, but not all take advantage of it.

In a world filled with noise, the secret place is God’s invitation to intimacy. It is a place of communion, a refuge for the weary soul and a sanctuary of divine refreshing.

In the secret place-God reveals His secrets, provides instructions and strengthens His people for the journey ahead.

Jesus Christ Himself withdrew to solitary places to commune with the Father.

If the Son of God needed a secret place, how much more do we?

There is power in private devotion and it is the secret place that our public lives are truly shaped.

Dear friends, God is refuge and fortress. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty”-Psalm 91:1. Let us learn:-

THE SECRET PLACE IS A PLACE OF INTIMACY WITH GOD.

Power is the ability to act (Dunamis) GK.

• There are seven powers of God in Isaiah 11:2.

• Power comes from the anointing of the Holy Spirit (wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, piety (reverence), fear of the Lord.

Authority is the freedom or right to act without hindrance. Our authority comes from our intimacy (closeness) to God. Authority begins with God, for there is no authority except from God.

• Therefore Biblical power (Dunamis) is the inherent ability or strength to do something, Authority (Exousia) is the right, legal permission or delegated position to exercise power-Luke 9:1. God has given us power and authority-Luke 10:19.

• God calls us into personal fellowship-1st Cor. 1:9.

• Our relationship with God deepens when we consistently spend time alone with Him.

• God is found in stillness and silence-Psalm 46:10.

• The secret place required intentional withdrawal from noise and distraction.

1. God reveals Himself to seekers-Jer. 29:13.

• Those who seek God privately experience Him powerfully.

1. The secret place is where God speaks clearly-Isaiah 30:21.

• Revelation flows freely when our hearts are still before Him.
• Moses entered the tabernacle of meeting outside the camp and the Lord spoke to his friend-Exodus 33:7-11.

THE SECRET PLACE IS A PLACE OF SECURITY AND PEACE.

It is a place of divine covering-Psalm 91:1.

• Those who dwell in God’s presence enjoy supernatural protection.

Peace is found in God’s presence-Isaiah 26:3.

• A focused heart experiences divine calm, even in the storms of life.

Troubles are kept outside the secret place-Psalm 27:5.

• God hides His own in times of adversity.

Fears dissolve in the presence of God-2nd Tim. 1:7.

• The secret place renews courage and extinguishes fear.
• The “sound mind” principle works for those who seek the secret place.
• David found strength and safety by continually seeking God in solitude, writing many psalms from this very place-Psalm 63:1-8.

THE SECRET PLACE IS A PLACE OF STRENGTH AND REFRESHING.

Strength is renewed in God’s presence-Isaiah 40:31.

• Waiting on God privately renews us spiritually, emotionally and mentally.

Divine refreshing flows from the secret place-Acts 3:19.

• Repentance and renewal go hand in hand in the presence of God.

Our souls are restored in the secret place-Psalm 23:3.

• God repairs what the world has broken.

It is a place of holy silence and strength-Lamentations 3:25-26.

• Quietness before God brings perspective and perseverance.
• Elijah fled to Mount Horeb and encountered God-not in the fire, earthquake or wind but in a still small voice-1st Kings 19:11-13.

THE SECRET PLACE IS A PLACE OF TRANSFORMATION.

We are changed in the presence of God-2nd Cor. 3:18.

• Spending time with God makes us more like Him.

God’s glory is imparted, privately-Exodus 34:29.

• The glory seen publicly is birthed in the secret place.

It is where our hearts are purified-Psalm 51:10.

• True holiness begins in the place of solitude.

Destinies are redefined in God’s presence-Gen. 32:24-28.

• God changed names, purposes and identities in private encounters.
• Jacob was left alone, and there he wrestled with God and received a new name and destiny-ISRAEL.

THE SECRET PLACE IS A LIFESTYLE NOT A LOCATION.

It is a daily pursuit-Luke 9:23.

• We must deny ourselves and seek Him consistently.

Jesus modelled it regularly-Luke 5:16.

• He withdrew often to pray and commune with the Father.

It can be cultivated anywhere-Matt. 6:6.

• The secret place is not bound by buildings-it is a heart posture.

Those who live in God’s presence carry His presence-Acts 4:13.

• People recognized that the disciples had been with Jesus.
• When you have been with Jesus Christ, people will notice. If you have been with the devil, they will also notice!!
• Daniel maintained a lifestyle of prayer and communion with God, three times a day, regardless of threats, schedules or distractions-Daniel 6:10.

CONCLUSION

• The secret place is not a mystical idea-It is the real living presence of God that we can experience daily.
• The secret place is where our spirits are nourished, our minds are renewed and our hearts are transformed.
• No church programme, no sermon, no song can replace personal time with God.
• Every revival, enduring anointing and every powerful ministry is built from this place.
• If you desire to know God deeply and walk in His power, you must find and remain in your secret place-God is waiting for you there, Just for you.
• To realize the secret place, you must first be born again. Only those who know God personally can personally commune with Him.
