THINGS THAT CANNOT BE SHAKEN

SERIES: LIVING BY FAITH.

TEXT: HEBREWS 12:25-29.

So many times we put our faith in things that will fail and easily shaken. Money will fail, relationships fail, people fail, medical science will fail, the judicial systems will fail. We need to put our faith in things that will not fail.

Hebrews 12, let us know that a time of shaking has come in the world when everything is shaking, except certain things which can never be shaken-2^nd Peter 3:10.

There is a shaking place. We live a life in a world that is being shaken from change and decay. Every day our economic system is being shaken than never before. Many people believe the world is heading to a great depression, inflation is at all-time high, petrol prices are too high, new diseases including new cancers are here with us, insecurity is a threat to all of us, false hopes are given to us all day-Matt. 7:24-29.

All that is not built upon Christ the solid rock will fall and only eternal things will stand. Only what is bold on the “Solid Rock” Jesus Christ will stand. Are you building on the Lord the Solid Rock or on quick sand.

The world is an unstable place. The Lord says the things that can be shaken will be removed to reveal the things that cannot be shaken!

The things that cannot be shaken are eternal. Today we are going to consider some of the things that cannot change. Let us look at five of them:-

THE THRONE OF GOD CANNOT BE SHAKEN.

• Psalm 45:6, “Your throne, O God will last for ever and ever.”
• Lamentations 5:19 “You O Lord, reign forever, your throne endures from generation to generation.”
• We can praise God that no matter what else happens-His throne remains secure.
• The throne of God represents His kinship.
• His rule is forever, He rules for ever and ever.
• The throne of God represents both His grace and judgement.
• Those who have placed their faith in God may come freely to the throne of grace and into His presence-His grace is sufficient.
• The throne of God cannot be shaken!! Let us come willingly, let us confess Jesus Christ as Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

THE WORD OF GOD CANNOT BE SHAKEN.

• Mark 13:31, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my word will never pass away.”
• 1^st Peter 1:25, “The word of the Lord stands forever”
• God’s word like Himself is not created, it will remain forever. It is unchangeable.
• We may try to manipulate it-but in the end will discover that our efforts were in vain.
• The Bible is living and powerful and eternal.
• Its power cannot be shaken-Heb. 4:12.
• It has power to convict, convert, to cleanse, to comfort and to counsel. Its power will never alter.
• Its promises cannot be shaken.
• The Bible has over 30,000 promises including Hebrews 13:5, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
• He will remain faithful to us-He cannot lie!!
• Its prophesies cannot be shaken.
• All the promises and prophesies in the Bible will be literally fulfilled.
• Thank God that in a world of shaky human promises and prophesies, God’s word stands secure.

THE CHURCH OF GOD CANNOT BE SHAKEN.

• Jesus said-Matt. 16:18, “I will build my church and the gates of hades will not overcome it.”
• The “visible church,” the church as an organization may be shaken and we have seen this in many ways.
• But the true church of Jesus Christ, the invisible church cannot be shaken.
• The church denominations will be shaken because they are man-made, founded by men and women.
• Church denominations are not perfect, they are corrupt but the true church of Jesus Christ is all those who have received Jesus Christ into their lives, they are saved, they are born again, they cannot be shaken!!
• The mystical church, the church which is the body and bride of Christ cannot be shaken.
• The true church is secure, permanent and abiding. Communism, secular, humanism, cults cannot shake the church.
• If you belong to that true church, you cannot be shaken.
• The question is “are we members of the true church”-Phil. 2:12.
• The denominational church is really a “mixed multitude,” those born again and those who just joined the journey!!-Matt. 7:22-23.
• But if we belong to the true church, we may rejoice in the fact that the church will never be shaken.

THE TRUE CHILD OF GOD CANNOT BE SHAKEN.

• There are many wonderful promises in the word of God regarding this.
• He has pledged to keep His children secure until they are safely home with Him in glory. 1^st John 2:17, “The world and its desires pass away, but the man (the person) who does the will of God lives forever”-John 10:28; Romans 8:38-39.
• As true believers in Christ we have eternal life and we cannot be shaken-for Jesus Christ is our strength and He cannot be shaken.
• Jesus Christ is really our life, we shall dwell in our eternal inheritance in that city whose architect and builder is God.
• How do we know that we have eternal life?

1. Assurance of the word of God-1^st John 5:11-13.
2. Changed lives-2^nd 5:17.
3. Confession of Jesus Christ and the inner witness that we belong to God-Rom. 10:9; Rev. 3:20; Rom. 8:14-17.

THE KINGDOM OF GOD CANNOT BE SHAKEN-Heb. 12:28.

• We are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken.
• Let us offer up to God acceptable worship with reverence and owe, for our God is a consuming fire.
• This kingdom is unique because it is spiritual in nature.
• This kingdom is everlasting because its king is the eternal one.
• This kingdom is vast, millions of saints, angels, seraphims, cherubims.
• This kingdom includes those in heaven and those on earth, the prophets, apostles and the redeemed of all time and ages.
• God is shaking the heaven and the earth, those who belong to God should not fear.

CONCLUSION

• As we think about the instability of the world, let us be encouraged.
• Let us put our trust in a God who cannot be shaken.
• Are you sure you are saved? “On Christ the solid Rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand.”
