TEXT: ISAIAH 65:17-25 (2 Peter 3:10-13)

INTRODUCTION

Today we are in the final section of the book of Isaiah. The previous age has passed away and the glories of a new millennia has dawned. The glories of the new age will mean that the past is completely forgotten and left behind. Now God will minister through His people. In the above text, the Lord describes the Millennial Kingdom and the eternal state, the near heaven and a new Earth. In Rev. 21:1, 20:4. The new heaven and a new earth follows the millennial kingdom of our Lord. But Isaiah saw the millennium and the eternal state together, usually, the prophets saw the mountain peaks not the details of the plains and valleys. let us learn:-

I.  THE NEW HEAVEN AND THE NEW EARTH (65:17-19)

  • Isaiah introduces through prophetic revelation the reason why the former distress will be forgotten. “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth and the former things will not be remembered or come into mind” (V.17)
  • The Lord who created the whole universe or cosmos is going to create a new one.
  • The Hebrew word “BARA” means to create from nothing (Ex-Nihilo)
  • In Genesis 1:1, God created the Heavens and the Earth not from pre-existing materials, He simply spoke the word and it became.
  • It will not be a matter of simply remodelling or renovation of the Earth and the Heavens.
  • In “2 Peter 3:10” we read that this Earth with its developments will be done away with entirely.
  • In a millisecond flash of unbelievable energy and fervent heat, things will cease to be (2 Peter 3:10-13)
  • The destructive power of God will be displayed in the new creation.
  • The new genesis will fully display the power, wisdom and glory of its creator.
  • The new heavens and the new Earth will be eternal and in them are safety, permanence, peace and plenty (Isa 66:22-23, 2 Peter 3:13, Rev 21:1)
  • This is a promise of a fundamental and complete change in the state of things.
  • The former would will be forgotten, things will be so wonderful that we won’t remember what was before them (Rev. 21:4)
  • The things of the fallen world, relationships with people that are in hell, lost because of their rejection of Jesus would not even come to mind.
  • The transformation that will occur in the new Earth and new Heaven will be so complete that our perspective will be utterly changed.
  • The problems, failures, hurts, wounds, fears and distresses of the past will be remembered no more.
  • Those of you who are suffering and grieving from the loss of a loved one -you will never feel the pangs of loneliness ever again.
  • The nights of pain, the wasted years, the failures, the partings the bereavements are gone forever.
  • Those suffering Arthritis, Osteoporosis and fibre-myalgia will never feel pain again
  • Those who feel rejected and insecure will be totally healed of all by the acceptance of Jesus Christ.
  • In God’s new world there will be no more sleepless nights, sluggish days, no sickness, no guilt, greed or jealousy, no more worries or depressing worry no more goodbyes.
  • In Gods new world, there will be no more crime, violence, no war.
  • In God’s new world, there will be no more lies, no more liars, no more injustices.
  • In God’s new world, there will be no more heartaches, heartburn, heart attacks, heartbreaks.
  • In verse (65:18), the capital city will be Jerusalem a rejoicing and her people a gladness or joy. V.19 – indicates how different the new creation will be from the old
  • God’s new world brings joy to Him (I will also rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in any people”
  • There will be no more weeping and sound of crying
  • Sin and sorrow, sadness and distress will vanish.
  • May the Lord hasten the day (Rev 21:1-5)

II.  THE MILLENNIAL KINGDOM (65:20-25)

  • Jesus Christ will rule and reign for 1,000yrs on Earth.
  • This millennial kingdom of Jesus Christ proceeds the new Earth and new Heaven
  • During the millennial kingdom, there is still sin and death.
  • Isaiah here combines the Messianic and eternal ages
  • 20 “no longer will there be an infant who lives but a few days or an old man who does not live out his days, otherwise, it will be a curse.
  • Today the most unsafe place for an infant is in her mother’s womb.
  • Violence towards infants will end when Jesus Christ returns to Earth
  • UNICEF reports that 16million kids worldwide are under the age of five. 8 billion of them die before they are 30days old.
  • God is saying “that will not happen anymore”
  • God’s millennial kingdom also brings longevity.
  • In the kingdom age there will be health, peace, and rightness – many people will live the 1000yrs.
  • A story is told of a man who was celebrating 100yrs birthday. He was asked “how did you manage to live so long, it is your secret?” the man said “well son, I got married at 21. The wife and I decided that if we had arguments, the loser would take a long walk to get over being mad. I guess you can say that God has blessed me with 79yrs of fresh air” (Psalm 91:16)
  • 12 they will build houses and inhabit them
  • They will plant a vineyard and eat their fruit
  • They will enjoy the fruit of their labour
  • There will be prosperity for all (Lev 26:10, Deut. 28:15-30, 46, Lev. 26:16, Amos 5:11, Mic 6:15, Isa. 17:11)
  • No grabbing will be allowed v.22, live as long as trees.
  • No corruption of capitalism, communism or socialism .v.23 “they will not labour in vain or bear children for calamity. V.24 there will be perfect communication with God
  • Before they call – answer when still speaking I will hear. V25 the wolf and lamb will graze together, the lion will eat grass like a cow (Hosea 2:18)
  • Satan will be chained for a thousand years, life on earth will flourish (Rev 20:2)

CONCLUSION

  • It is going to be party time on Earth (2 Cor. 5:17)
  • The kingdom of God is about righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Rom 14:17)
  • What a day that will be. Are you saved? Make sure today.
