SERIES: THROUGH THE BOOK OF COLOSSIANS.
TEXT: COLOSSIANS 3:17
As a born-again believer, you should do everything as if you were the Lord’s representative here on the earth. He is the one who has sent us into this world. As believers in Christ, we live as those who have been sent by Him. We are His ambassadors. If you do something in Jesus name, it means that you do it with the authority He gave you and not on your own authority and that you act within the limits of your authorization, whatever those limits may be. You act as His agent, in His stead to His credit and for His benefit.
This should represent Christ in all words, actions and intentions all the time actively working to align your will with His.
Even our own name, “Christian” shows that we are in Christ, one with Him, even we are His. This is our reality in our Christian life. We live a life in the name of the Lord Jesus. This is not something “religious” or outward, it is the expression of an inward reality.
In all endeavor, we can never archive anything without the input of Jesus-John 15:5. We have a real enemy out to resist and oppress us in anything good that we want to archive. It takes the hand of God to fight for us to get things done.
If then God will have to be involved in our endeavors so as to get results, then we have to do the endeavor in God’s way. God wants to be glorified through anything we do.
How to do anything in the name of the Lord:-
YOUR STEPS ARE ORDERED BY THE LORD-Psalm 37:23.
- God is at work in your life: God is directing you through life.
- Many are the plans in the mind of a believer. All do not succeed, it is the will of God that is finally established, therefore, who can understand His own way?-Proverbs 20:24.
- Where you live today is possibly not where you had planned to live. What you do today, for career, is possibly not what you had planned to do in life. There is another person controlling your own life!
- All the course of your life is graciously ordained and in loving kindness all is fixed, settled and maintained; no reckless fate, every step is from a divine decree (Charles Spurgeon).
- Nothing about a believer’s life is governed by fate as many would like to believe. There is never a coincidence and nothing just happens:-
GOD ONLY PROGRAMS LIFE TO GET GLORY-1st Peter 4:11.
- God is the author of life. You were created by another. He also created the place you live. God the eternal source of every virtue, deserves control according to His will.
- If you will live in the will of God, you move easily without effort, you are “carried” by the current. God will cause His purpose to be established. When you align with His purpose, you don’t struggle. He provides all the power to carry out the purpose!
- God is infinitely worthy of honor, not because He demands it but because He is the source of everything that is good. Man’s fulfilment in life only takes place in that environment that brings glory to his maker.
- God’s glory is big deal to God and rightly so, God’s glory is about reality, not ego. Everything exists by His power, everything comes from Him-Romans 11:36.
- When we give God glory, we are aligning with reality, acknowledging that we are not the source of life, wisdom and power. The world teaches us to seek our own glory, to prove our worth through projecting ourselves, to prove ourselves through achievement, recognition and applause!! For the child of God nothing should even be done for self-glorification and selfish ambition-Philippians 2:3.
- When God gets the glory is when everything else aligns for our benefits and fulfilment.
WE SHOULD GLORIFY JESUS THE WAY HE GLORIFIED THE FATHER.
- The Lord never did anything for His own purpose. He said, “As the Father has not left me alone, for I do always those things that please Him.” The Lord, in His earthly ministry, purposed to glorify the Father in everything He did.
- The same way the Lord purposed to glorify the father, the same way we should purpose to glorify Him!!
- When you purpose to glorify the Lord, the Lord will be happy with you.
- When the Lord is glorified through you, He will command favor and blessings into your life.
- When you do something in the name of the Lord, you invoke His involvement in any risk that may occur!!
CONCLUSION
-
- In everything you do in word or deed, do it in the name of the Lord.
- Proverbs 3:6, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
