WHAT’S THE RUSH?

Evening service! 15/6/2014

PREACHER: REV. DR. WILLY MUTISO.

TEXT: EXODUS 2 : 11 – 25.

INTRODUCTION:

People value quickness, service, and convenience. Business people today know the needs of the people and capitalize on the need for profit.
Moses grew up to be a prince. But he was not ready to lead the Egyptians or Jews. He was very prejudiced, impulsive, and violent. He made a mistake, killed an Egyptian, and fled the country for 40 years. In the wilderness of Midian, Moses learned to live life outside his comfort zone, to relate to people and to respond to God’s call and orders. God answers prayer three ways: yes, no, wait. Why does God make us wait? What are the benefits of waiting? Let us learn:

Approve the necessary example (2:11-14).
Moses the Hebrew learned that negative aspirations, ambition, and aggression were unacceptable.
Murder was not an option. He was exposed, denounced, and penalized.
The end does not justify the means. But means justify the end.
Quick fixes are no long-term solutions.

He thought that force would solve the slavery problem.
Leading by force is not acceptable. Leading by persuasion is commendable. But leading by permission is superior.
It is difficult to lead people without their permission.
Power makes people obey, listen, and fear.
Persuasion changes the way people think, feel, or say.
Permission makes people change and follow, ask, and seek for peoples’ permission: “Who made you ruler and judge over us?”
Moses was used to doing things without permission.
Appreciate the necessary education (2:15-17).
Moses’ best education was not in the palace in Egypt.
His best education was in the wilderness of Midian.

In Midian, Moses was educated as a shepherd, servant, and stranger.
In Midian, Moses earned a degree in shepherding, caring, gathering, guarding, and guiding the defenseless, dirty, dumb sheep.
In Midian, Moses learned to serve instead of being served.
He learned the value of working hard, braving the heat, doing chores, and getting things done.

Moses learned to defend the helpless (2:17).
Finally, through fatherhood, Moses asserted: “I have become an alien in a foreign land” (2:22).
He learned to stand alone and look to God alone.

Acquire the necessary experience (2:21-25).
“During that long period of time” (v.23).
Moses needed necessary experience.
Moses needed to learn to live practically, patiently, and passionately.
Moses learned to be a husband, father, son-in-law, brother-in-law.
God trained Moses for 40 years; a year for each of the years in the wilderness of Sinai.

CONCLUSION:
What do you think God is doing in your life now?
Do you appreciate people, life, and things?
Remember God is at work in your life.
Are you saved? Are you a servant?
