TEXT: LUKE 1:26-33. MATT. 1:19-25. ISAIAH 7:14.
The most significant event ever happened in the world is when heaven came down in to the world.
God the son entered this world to provide salvation to all who believe.
This is the highest point of Gods redemptive plan. Apostle Paul stated in -Galatians 4:4-5 “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his son, born of a woman under the law to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.”
Jesus Christ came down from heaven at the fullness of time.
God sent his only begotten, son born of a woman, born under the law to:
- Redeem those under the law of sins and death.(Romans 8:2)
- That we may receive adoption to sonship (John 3:6)
- That we may receive the holy spirit in to our hearts, the holy spirit who cries” Abba-Father.”
How did God come in to this world? What where the circumstances when God came? What where the means God used when came to mankind?-(Luke 1:26-38).
The word Christmas is a compound of two words CHRIST and MAS.
CHRIST=The anointed one, the Messiah, the promised one.
MAS=A Latin word MASSI or MISSA-It means “to send”. Christmas means “Christ to send.”
- God sent His son in to the world to save sinners like you and me.
Let us see the circumstance in which God send Christ in to the world:
THE DIVINE MESSENGER-GABRIEL (LUKE 1:26)
“In the 6th month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee.”
- Nobody had seen an angle in over 400 years.
- For 400 years between Malachi and Matthew, God was silent.
- Eventually, an angle called Gabriel appeared to a man old humble priest from the hilly country of Judea doing his duty down in the temple, a couple of weeks a year.
- Gabriel announced to Zachariah that he would go home and have a son with his wife Elizabeth.
- Elizabeth was barren and both her and her husband Zachariah were old (above 80 years).
- 6 months into Elizabeth’s pregnancy Gabriel came again, this time to the city of Nazareth in Galilee.
- God has many ways of communicating to man. To Abraham, Moses, Balaam, Prophets (oracles), to Daniel, Zachariah, Elizabeth and Daniel.
- Now God has spoken to us through His son (Hebrews 1:1-2).Through His word=”The son.”
THE DIVINE CHOICE-(Mary)-Luke 1:27
- Angel Gabriel came from the presence of God down all the way to the land of Israel to the little town of Nazareth.
- The Angle came to a little house-to a little virgin girl called Mary-(14 years).
- The little virgin girl was called Mary and was engaged to a young man called Joseph.
- Engagement was a legal biding them. Joseph had paid a dowry, a bride prize to her father, wedding was to be held in future.
- Engagement period went on for a year and during engagement the girl had to prove her faithfulness by staying in her father’s house.
- The boy had to prove by preparing her home to them.
- Us who are born again we have been engaged to Jesus Christ, Christ has paid a down deposit dowry to us (Holy Spirit). He has gone to prepare a place-(John 14:1-3).
- We must remain faithful until He come to us.
GENEALOGY OF JESUS.
- Joseph was from the bloodline of King David, The great king of Israel.
- In the gospel of Matthew the genealogy of Jesus is recorded from Abraham through Joseph to Jesus.
- Joseph was to be the foster father to Jesus Christ, Matthew was written to Jews to show that Jesus Christ is the king of the Jews.
- The genealogy of Jesus Christ in Luke start from Adam-Abraham-David-Mary.
- One begins with Jesus Christ the other ends with Jesus Christ.
- Jesus Christ is the descendant of David through his mother. Jesus Christ had family, both ways.
THE DIVINE BLESSING: GOD’S FAVOR-(Luke 1:28)
- The angel went to her and said “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
- Heaven came down with a message through this angel to this girl. She is God’s Choice.
- Mary has Gods favor, the Lord is with her.
- What is the favor Mary received? (Luke 1:28)
- The favor was to be chosen from among all women through the grace of God to be mother of our Lord.
- Mary has no divine status to warrant worship. (Luke 11:27-28) “Blessed are they that hear the word of God and obey it.”
- Worship of Mary is not biblical. Blessedness is in believing the son of God.
- The greatest favor Mary received was that her sins were forgiven by the child that was in her womb. The child Jesus Christ brought Mary back to God.
- The greatest favor you and I can receive from God is to have our sins forgiven through repentance and baptism (Acts 2:38) “Repent and be baptized, every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.”
- The greatest favor for Mary from God is that Jesus will save Mary from her sins (Matthew 1:21)
- Mary affirmed her virginity-virginity for both men and women allows for greatest visibility.
- So Mary had divine blessing-God’s favor upon Mary.
- Favor of God is that this child would cleanse from her sins.
- Gods favor was that Mary will be the first disciple of Jesus.
- Mary had a choice to accept or reject.
- Gods favor comes at a cost-Mary suffered shame, sorrow, a sword went through her life!! She had to watch her own son die on the cross.
CONCLUSION
- The most significant event that ever happened in this world is when heaven came down.
- There was a divine messenger –Gabriel.
- There was a divine choice –Mary.
- There was a divine message -Gods favor.

- Today you can receive Gods favor -Jesus Christ will forgive you your sins -Today come, make no delay.
