WHERE IS THE LORD GOD OF ELIJAH

SERIES: OUR GODFATHERS

TEXT: 2^nd KINGS 2:1-5

The Lord God of Elijah is the God who hides His people, the God of Elijah provides for His people, the God of Elijah answers by fire, the God of Elijah is the God is the God of Elisha. In 2^nd Kings 2:2, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord has send me to Bethel.” In 2^nd Kings 2:4 The Lord has sent me to Jericho. In 2^nd Kings 2:6-The Lord has sent me to Jordan.

Elijah knew Elisha thought a great deal of him. He followed him from Gilgal to Bethel, to Jericho and then to Jordan River, now they stood beside the river.

We still have preachers who look up to, and admire great preachers, and they want to become like them. They follow them around, they do all they can to learn to be like them. They will-

• Wear the same kind of clothes they wear.
• Wear the same kind of shoes they wear.
• They comb their hair the way they do.
• They preach from the same color Bible they preach from.
• They talk like them as they preach.
• They use the same gestures they use.
• Same spray, same manners, same sins!!

Elijah was about to be raptured up in a whirlwind to be with the Lord when he asked Elisha “What do you want, Elisha? Elisha said I want a double portion of what you have.” Elijah said in Vs. 10, “Thou hast asked a hard thing; never the less if you see me when I am taken from you IT SHALL BE SO UNTO THEE, BUT IF NOT, IT SHALL NOT BE SO.”

• In Vs. 11, as they continued to walk, we are told, “And it came to pass as they still went on, and talked that behold there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire and parted them both asunder and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.”
• In Verse 13-14, Elisha took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him and used it to divide the river Jordan.
• Many preachers wish they could get Elijah’s mantle, they would sell every inch of it!!
• Elisha knew where the power came from “WHERE IS THE LORD GOD OF ELIJAH…”
• Elisha was asking,
• Where is the God of Elijah who gave him power courage and strength to stand up to a wicked world?
• Where is Elijah’s God?
• Not everyone is serving the God of Elijah.
• The Mormons-serve a “Jesus Christ of latter day saints” who was a brother of Lucifer-Satan.
• The Lord Jesus Christ we serve was not born as we were (He was born of a virgin).
• Jesus Christ our Savior is the eternal son of God-Deity!!

But who is the Lord the God of Elijah?

GOD WHO GIVES COURAGE.

• Elijah lived during a time when two of the wicked people, whoever ruled Israel were in power-King Ahab and his wicked wife-Jezebel.
• But God gave Elijah courage to stand up to Ahab and his wicked wife.
• King Ahab and his wicked wife Jezebel were so wicked that God began to curse the land of Israel-no rain, famines etc.
• Ahab blamed the troubles of Israel on Elijah-1^st Kings 18:17-18.
• The God of Elijah gave him courage to stand up against witchcraft and to correct Ahab-“No I am not the problem-you are!”
• We see the lack of courage in two areas in our country.

1. In the streets of Kenya-manhood is vanishing.

• Many men are trying to become like women-today.
• They wear jewelry, beauty salon, shaving plaited hair, silk underwears, make-up.
• Men crying like babies, running away from wife and children.
• Where is the Lord the God of Elijah who gives courage?

2. Failure to stand up against wickedness in the country. Revolutionary men, freedom fighter-remember the Boston Tea party-the immigrants in America stood against taxes imposed by Britain on the people of America.

• Elijah stood up to Ahab, king of Israel and told him, “….I AM NOT THE PROBLEM, YOU ARE!!”

3. Where is the Lord God of Elijah?

• We see lack of courage in Kenya in the pulpits.
• God needs preachers who have courage enough, love enough to preach His word.
• Most of our preachers are sissy, they want to impress, please, speak properly, socialize and be well liked.
• We live in a wicked time. It takes courage to preach in times of wickedness.
• Where is the Lord the God of Elijah when homosexuality is being tolerated in Kenya, when the Pope says homosexuality is okay, when the arch-bishop of cater- burry it’s ok for lesbianism.
• When the world wants to be tolerant to sin-“where is the Lord the God of Elijah?”
• God never meant for homosexuality to be a life-style. God did not create two males or two females, He created male and female-Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve!! Not he/he or she/she.
• God is against LGBTQ-Rom. 1:26-27.
• “Where is the Lord the God of Elijah?”
• When abortion is legalized in Kenya in the name of “women rights.” God never gave anyone the right to murder innocent children. The Supreme Court may have but God never has.
• Elijah’s God can give us courage to stand up against wickedness in the land.

WHO THEN IS THE LORD THE GOD OF ELIJAH.

1. The Lord the God of Elijah is the one God that who makes a way where there is no way.

• He can part your Jordan so that you can cross over.

2. The Lord the God of Elijah is the God who multiplies with nothing.
3. The Lord the God of Elijah brings the visible out of the invisible.
4. The Lord the God of Elijah is the one who can provide for His people by humanly impossible means.

• The Lord God of Elijah was the one who fed Elijah through the ravens.
• Until this day God’s ravens still fly.

5. The Lord the God of Elijah is the God who looks after those who lose themselves in Him like the widow of Zeraphath.
6. The Lord the God of Elijah is the God who resurrects the dead.

• He gave power unto dead bones and they became alive again.

7. The Lord God of Elijah gives supernatural strength. Elijah ran 30 miles (50 kms) on foot and he ran faster than the chariots of the king-the God of supernatural energy.

THE LORD GOD OF ELIJAH IS THE GOD THAT ANSWERETH BY FIRE.

• Are you at the end of the road now?
• Are you caged in a particular problem? Call on the Lord God of Elijah-let Him answer by fire.
• The truth is that the man who can pray has nothing to fear.
• When you are in despair you need the God who answers by fire.
• We must call on the God of Elijah, He answers by fire even before your enemies.
• The Mt. Carmel contest between Baal and the God of Elijah is in view here.
• Are your enemies laughing at you? Are they saying, “show us your God”-part your Jordan river-tell them, “I serve the God that answereth by fire.”
• God of Elijah is looking for Elijah’s of God. Men and women who pray, who stand alone, men and women who believe in miracles for the glory of God.

CONCLUSION-Prayer points

• Untouchable power, indestructible power and unchangeable power fall upon my life now in the name of Jesus Christ.
• Let the fire of the Almighty God sock my hands now in the name of Jesus Christ.
• Let the God of Elijah divide my Jordan in the name of Jesus Christ.
• Lord God of Elijah convert my disappointments to miracles in the name of Jesus Christ.
• Lord God of Elijah remove inherited limitations from my life in Jesus name.
• Lord God of Elijah paralyze every household wickedness in the name of Jesus Christ.
