WHY? WHY?

JOB. 3: 1-12; 23

INTRODUCTION

Life is filled with its “why” moments. Maybe you are in your “why?” moment this morning. God does not seem to like the question “Why?” may be is because the question “why?” attracts many opinions. Why do children suffer? Why do terrible things happen to good people? Why do the wicked prosper while the righteous seem to have more than their share of difficult? In the midst of his trials, that was Job’s question. Job’s “Why” revolves around why he was even allowed to be born when such tragedy was in his future. During our “why” moments, God is there with us, during our “why” moments we mature in the Lord.

Let us learn:-

I.  THE TRAGEDIES OF JOB’S LIFE

1. Job lost much; family, fortune, fitness and friends.
2. None of us leaves this world without being touched by troubles and trials (Job.5:7;14:1, Eccl.2:17,23 John 10:33)
3. Trials will do one of the following things in your life:
4. They can drive you to God – if you understand that God is always in control of all of life (Job. 1:6-12, 2:1-6)

• You can rest assured in the knowledge that God is in control of all that comes to pass in life. (Rom.8:28)

2. They can drive you away from God. Some people react to their “why’s” with anger, they become upset because God did not do anything to stop their “why” moment from happening.

• Our troubles and trials can make us or they can break up.

II.  TEMPTATIONS OF JOB’S LIFE

• When these events occurred in Job’s life, Job was faced with certain temptations.
• These are the same temptations we face when troubles come.

1. Job could have faulted God or self (1:11, 2:5, 8:1-5)

• Job’s friends said Job was at fault.
• One benefit that comes from suffering is that it reveals the true character of the people around you.
• The Bible says the friends came to comfort Job, but actually, they came to accuse him.

1. This was a man of testimonial experience.

• Eliphaz is the kind of people, no matter what you are going through, they have had it worse than you.
• Man will fail you, Jesus Christ cannot (Prov.18:24)
• Eliphaz flatters Job. (4:3-40 he tells him that he has been a blessing to many.
• Eliphaz flogs Job; He accuses him of hypocrisy (4:5-11) weakness (4:5-6) wickedness (4:7-9)
• Eliphaz floors Job. (4:12, 5:22). He accuses Job of self-righteousness (v.12) – Not accepted by God.
• You get what you deserve (5:13). You are an old windbag (5:17; 15:2)

2. Bildad: This was a man of traditional explanations.
3. 8:2, His attack- He calls Job an old windbag.
4. 8:3-22, he tells Job that all these things have happened to him because he is a bad fellow.
5. Zophar: the man of total estimation

• He simply tells Job that he needs to repent of his sins and get right with God.
• He tells Job that he is getting far less than he deserves (Job. 11:1-7)

4. Elihu- The man of truthful expressions (Job 32;1-3)

• Elihu rebukes Job’s friends. He uses 5 chapters to tell us that God is good, great and fair.

1. Job could have forsaken God.

• Many people become bitter (2:9)
• David’s reaction to the death of his child (2 Sam 12:13-23)
• Pressure, heat and time are needed to create a diamond, so saints are produced.

III.  THE TESTIMONY OF JOB’S LIFE

1. Job worshipped God (1:20), He renewed his commitment.
2. Job witnessed (1:21)- he declared his faith in God.
3. Job wondered (1:22, 2:10) he did not accuse God.
4. He declared confidence in God purposes (42:2, Rom 8:28)
5. He realized his limited perspective (42:3)
6. Job, waited (42:5) He fixed his eyes on God (Heb.12:1-3)

IV.  THE TRIUMPH OF JOB’S LIFE.

1. Job realized (42:5-6) victory lies in God (I Cor. 15:57)

• Job realized that this thing was greater than himself.
• Job won the victory (1:21) planted the flag in (13:15)

1. Job was restored (42:10-17) he got twice as much. God can give you better things than which you lose or we worried over losing!
2. Job reflected 42:14, Job and his wife got 10 more children, three of them daughters.
3. Jemima- (Day or dove) God gave to Job a day in place of night and peace for the turmoil.
4. Kezia (Fragrance) indicating God gave Job sweet smell of his grace to replace his sorrow.
5. Keren- Happuch (Box of eye paint) Job praised God for replacing his wretchedness with Glory.

CONCLUSION

• Thank God for your Jemima, Kezia and Keren.
• God is always there with us in our valleys- praise Him.
• Let God have your “why?”
