SERIES: PALM SUNDAY 2020
TEXT: REVELATION 7:9-15
Today is palm Sunday 2020
Palm Sunday signifies the beginning of the Holy week. On this day 2000 years ago, our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ victoriously entered into the city of Jerusalem riding on a donkey. The people in the parade were many. They were singing “Hossana to the son of David” in the crowd there were skeptics, the faithful and the antagonists. The people had their expectations of what Jesus Christ should do for them. Today we want to look at another Palm Sunday, it is time not on earth, but in heaven. This is written in Revelation 7:9-15 please read the passage.
In this episode, there are Palm branches, cheers and Jesus is in the center of it all once again. But there are some differences. On Palm Sunday the crowd was a mixture of people (mixed multitude). The future group in heaven will be made up of only saved people, true believers and the angels.
The first group looked forward; the second group looks at what is real. In the first group, their hope was temporal deliverance, the second group will look at eternal and spiritual deliverance.
The second group is far, superior and the triumph is real.
Let us look at this triumph:-
I. FIRST, WE WILL UNDERSTAND THE GREATNESS OF GOD AND OF HIS GRACE TOWARD US (REV.7:9-12)
- First, we will understand and see our sin in the light of God’s holiness
- At present time we know that there are things that we do that are wrong.
- When we measure our lives by the scriptures, we see that we often fail to meet the standard God has set.
- We love the Lord, we want to please Him, but when we fail it pains us.
- We don’t really know how offensive our sins are to our Holy God
- We do not fully comprehend how far we have fallen from the standards of God.
- We are not called to measure our lives by other people, we are called to measure our lives by the Lord.
- Heaven will be an eye-opening experience for us.
- When we see God in His holiness, we will realize our true nature.
- Everyone who encountered God understood the depth of his need.
- Isaiah saw the Lord and he said “woe is me, for I am a man of unclean lips” (Isa.6)
II. SECONDLY, WE WILL SEE GOD’S GRACE, IN LIGHT OF OUR SIN (REVELATION 7:13-14)
- When we understand the depth of our need, we will appreciate His mercy and grace in a way, we have not appreciated before.
- Let us notice that, these people before the throne were “wearing robes”
- We are told that “they have washed their robes and made them white by the blood of the lamb” (14)
- On that day, we will realize that we stand before the Lord in Heaven ONLY because of the precious blood of the son of God.
- We will realize that we are standing on Holy ground, only the precious blood of Jesus Christ affords us the privilege.
- Only then would we see and realize what the Lord, our Savior set aside so He could save us.
- So we will spend the rest of eternity in gratitude and worship.
- We will worship the Lord not because we have to but because it is the only response.
- In this worship there shall be no arrogance, no sense of superiority, no ranking ourselves against others – only worship.
- The angelic host, those who have been a part of this great act of salvation, when they see the great multitudes of those redeemed, they will cry out.
- “Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!!
- On that day we will see the greatness of our God and His great love towards us.
- On that day, we will be on the other side of our struggles.
- The struggle with Coronavirus (COVID 19) will be over.
- There will be no more, lockdowns, shutdown, curfews, police brutality, job loses, masks and social distancing.
- On that day, there will be no more threats of terror, diseases, economic meltdown, death and decay
- The struggle with corona will not go forever it will come to an end. Praise God!
- In our passage (Rev. 7:14) John asks who these white-robed people are. He was told “these are they that have come out of the great tribulation”
- These are the ones who have survived the trials of life.
- These are the ones who have remained faithful, even when life was hard and painful.
- These are the believers who have kept the faith.
- In this life we face one obstacle after obstacle.
- We get through one operation after another.
- We pay one debt and another one makes a claim.
- We get one child healthy and another gets sick.
- The reason people run marathons, even when there is no chance of winning is because of the joy and satisfaction that comes when you cross the finish line.
- It is not the winning – it is the surviving and conquering that brings the joy (2Tim 4:7-8)
- Paul does not say it had been easy – it was a “fight”. It was a “race,” it was keeping the faith.
- As we run the race of life, we need to keep that day in our minds.
III. THIRD, WE WILL BEGIN TO EXPERIENCE THE LIFE WE NEVER DARED TO IMAGINE (REVELATION 7:15)
- Listen to these words “He who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them”
- Never again will they hunger, never again will they thirst (V.16-17)
- God himself will be with them and be their God (Rev.21:3-4)
- There is coming a day we will never again battle the forces of nature.
- There is coming a day, no more tears, fear, sorrow, disappoints, no losses, no bullies, no death, no corona, no swine flu etc.
- There is coming a day, no more using of people to get ahead, no more hurtful words, no hatred.
CONCLUSION
- So what do we do in the light of these facts? Who cares? So what? How does this affect you and me now?
- First of all, is this your destination? Will you be in the crowd on that Palms day in Heaven?
- Are you amongst those who have washed their robes in the blood of the lamb?
- In the light of the glory that awaits us in heaven, let us live differently. Let us anchor our lives on the future.
- Very soon, the coronavirus (COVID 19) will be over.
- The worst corona is the corona of sin.
- Let us stay put in our faith, for very soon we will be able to worship the Lord together again – Amen.
