CHRISTMAS: THE BIRTH THAT BROKE EVERY BONDAGE

TEXT: LUKE 2:1-14.

The birth of Jesus Christ shattered spiritual, social and eternal barriers, ushering humanity into divine access, redemption and hope.

“For unto us is born this day in the city of David a savior, which is Christ the Lord”-Luke 21:11.

Christ is not just a cultural celebration or a historical remembrance; it is a divine invasion into human limitation.

The birth of Jesus Christ marked the moment eternity stepped into time and heaven crossed boundaries that humanity could never cross on its own.

Before Christ came, mankind was captive to sin, separated from God, divided by race, class and covenant and trapped under the power of darkness.

The law exposed sin but could not save, prophets pointed to hope but could not fulfil it, and sacrifices covered sin but could not remove it.

At christmas, God answered all limitation at once.

The birth of Jesus Christ broke barriers that had stood for generations, opening the way for salvation, reconciliation and new life.

Our message this christmas day is a reminder to us that no boundary remains unbroken where Christ is received. Let us learn:-

THE BIRTH OF CHRIST BROKE THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN GOD AND MAN.

  • The incarnation was God’s deliberate step towards humanity, restoring access that sin had destroyed and reunited heaven with earth.

Sin had separated man from God-Isaiah 59:1-2.

  • Sin created a great spiritual gulf that no human effort could bridge, making divine fellowship impossible until God Himself intervened.

God crossed the distance through incarnation-John 1:14.

  • By becoming flesh, God removed the barrier of inaccessibility and chose to dwell personally among those He came to save.

Christ restored lost fellowship-2nd Cor. 5:18-19.

  • Through Jesus Christ, reconciliation replaced alienation, making relationship with God possible again.

Access to God was permanently replaced-Heb. 4:16.

  • Believers now can approach God boldly, not through fear or rituals, but through grace secured by Christ.
  • Adam and Eve lost fellowship in Eden through disobedience, but Christ, the second Adam, restored that fellowship through obedience and sacrifice-Rom. 5:17-19.

THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST BROKE SOCIAL AND RACIAL BOUNDARIES.

  • The christmas story reveals a savior for all people, not restricted by race, status or background.

Jesus Christ was born for humanity or classes of people.

  • The angels proclaimed and it is clear that the joy of Christ’s birth was intended for very nation and tribe.

The gospel crossed all cultural lines-Matt. 2:1-2.

  • The visit of the wisemen (Magi) showed that Christ’s kingship was recognized beyond Jewish borders.

God honored the lowly and mighty-Luke 2:8-20.

  • Shepherds (the lowest class) and kings (the Magi) alike were invited, proving that social rank has no bearing on divine acceptance.

Christ dismantled all human divisions-Galatians 3:28.

  • In Christ, distinctions that once separated people lost their power and relevance.
  • The inclusion of Gentiles such as the wisemen (Magi) demonstrated that salvation was never meant for one group alone but for the whole world.

THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST BROKE THE BOUNDARY OF SPIRITUAL BONDAGE.

  • Christmas announced freedom to those imprisoned by sin, fear and satan’s dominion.

Humanity was held captive by sin-Rom. 3:23.

  • Sin imposed a sentence of death that mankind could not escape by moral or religious effort.

Jesus Christ came to deliver-Matt. 1:21.

  • His very name declared His mission-to save His people from their sin, not merely sympathize with them.

Darkness was confronted by divine light-John 1:5.

  • The entrance of Christ marked the defeat of spiritual darkness and deception.

Freedom was proclaimed from birth of Christ-Isaiah 61:1.

  • Even before His ministry began, His coming announced liberation for the bound.
  • The deliverance of the children of Israel from the slavery in Egypt was a prefigure of Christ’s greater deliverance, freeing humanity from spiritual slavery.

THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST BROKE THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN TIME AND ETERNITY.

  • The incarnation connected the temporary with the eternal, giving earthly life everlasting meaning.
  • Now, as the song says, “And man shall live for evermore, because of christmas day.”

Eternity entered human history-Gal. 4:4.

  • At the fullness of time, God acted decisively within history to redeem mankind.

Mortality encountered immorality-Phil. 2:6-8.

  • Christ humbled Himself, taking on human form without losing divine essence.

Earth became a gateway to heaven-John 14:6.

  • Through Jesus Christ, eternal life is no longer distant but accessible.

Destiny replaced despair-1st Peter 1:3-4.

  • The birth of Christ secured a living hope that transcended earthly limitations.
  • When Jacob saw the ladder that stretched from heaven to earth, this ladder symbolized Jesus Christ who is the true connection between heaven and earth.
  • The Jacob’s ladder represented access and free communication between God and man.
  • The Jacob’s ladder represents answered prayer through intercession; angels ascending and descending-You will pray and receive answers from God.
  • Jesus Christ descended and ascended, Christmas is God with us.

CONCLUSION

    • Christmas celebrates more than a birth in Bethlehem; it proclaims the breaking of every barrier that once confined humanity.
    • Through Christ, separation became reconciliation, bondage gave way to freedom and despair was replaced with eternal hope.
    • No boundary, spiritual, social or eternal can withstand the power of Christ’s coming.
  • “And man shall now live for ever more because of christmas day.”
  • Today receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Just come, because He has come to seek and to save you.
