Christmas unveils the divine mission behind the birth of Jesus Christ; To redeem humanity and restore God’s eternal purpose.
“For the son of man is come to seek and save that which was lost”-Luke 19:10.
Christmas is far more than a celebration of a birth-it is a revelation of a divine purpose.
Jesus Christ did not come into the world by chance or tradition but by God’s eternal design to address humanity’s deepest need, redemption from sin and separation.
From Genesis to Malachi, the scriptures anticipated the coming of a savior. When Christ was born heaven declared that God’s long awaited plan had entered human history. His coming marked the turning point between despair and hope, bondage and freedom.
Understanding the purpose of Christ’s coming helps believers celebrate christmas with clarity and conviction.
When you know why He came, you also understand how to respond to His life, sacrifice and salvation. Let us notice tonight:-
CHRIST CAME TO SEEK AND SAVE HUMANITY FROM SIN.
- The primary purpose of Christ’s coming was salvation.
- Sin had imprisoned humanity and only a divine intervention could restore broken fellowship with God.
Salvation was heaven’s agenda-Matt. 1:21.
- Jesus was born with a mission clearly defined, “To save His people from their sins.”
Sin brought separation and death-Romans 6:23.
- Humanity’s rebellion resulted in spiritual death and alienation from God.
Christ bore the penalty of sin-Isaiah 53:5-6.
- Through His suffering, forgiveness and peace we were made available.
Salvation is received by faith-Eph. 2:8-9.
- Redemption is a gift of grace, not a reward for human effort.
- Zacchaeus’ encounter with Jesus shows Christ’s saving mission in action, restoring both soul and life direction-Luke 19:10.
CHRIST CAME TO REVEAL THE FATHER.
- Jesus Christ came to make God known in a personal and visible way.
- Through Christ, humanity can encounter the heart, love and compassion of the father.
Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God-Heb. 1:3.
- Christ perfectly expressed God’s nature and glory.
God’s love was demonstrated through Christ-John 3:16.
- The incarnation was the ultimate act of divine love.
Jesus Christ revealed God’s compassion for humanity-Matt. 9:36.
- His ministry reflected God’s mercy towards the broken.
Knowing Christ brings relationship with God-John 14:9.
- To see Jesus is to see the father.
- Jesus’ mercy toward the woman caught in adultery revealed God’s balance of truth and grace-John 8:1-11.
JESUS CHRIST CAME TO DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL.
- The coming of Christ was a direct confrontation with the kingdom of darkness.
- Jesus entered the world to liberate humanity from satanic oppression.
Christ came to break satanic bondage-1st John 3:8.
- His mission included destroying the devil’s works.
Fear and death were conquered-Hebrews 2:14-15.
- Through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Jesus disarmed the power of death.
Authority was restored to believers-Luke 10:19.
- Christ empowered His followers to walk in victory.
The cross of Jesus Christ sealed satan’s defeat-Col. 2:15.
- Jesus Christ triumphed openly over all power of darkness.
- The deliverance of the man possessed by legion shows Christ’s authority over every demonic force-Mark 5:1-15.
CHRIST CAME TO GIVE ABUNDANT LIFE.
- Beyond salvation Christ came to restore purpose, joy and fullness of life to humanity.
Jesus Christ offers abundant life-John 10:10.
- His coming restores what sin destroyed.
New life begins in Christ-2nd Cor. 5:17.
- Salvation produces a transformed identity.
God’s purpose is restored in Christ-Jeremiah 29:11.
- Life gains divine direction through Him.
Eternal life starts now-John 17:3.
- Knowing Christ brings continuous fellowship with God.
- The Samaritan woman’s encounter with Jesus Christ brought restoration, purpose and a new testimony.
CONCLUSION
- Christmas reveals the purpose behind Christ’s coming, to seek and save sinners, To reveal the father, destroy the works of the devil and restore abundant life.
- Every aspect of Jesus’ life and ministry aligned God’s eternal redemptive plan.
- As we celebrate christmas, we are called to respond with faith, obedience and commitment. Father thank you for sending Jesus as the Savior of the world.
