COME NOW-LET US REASON TOGETHER

ISAIAH 1:18

 

INTRODUCTION

The sinful condition of men is terrible in the extreme. Sin always separates man and God. God Himself interposes to produce a change. The proposal for peace is always from His side. In the book of Isaiah, God urges that a conference be held at once “Come and let us reason together.” That conference is to be held at once “come now” for the danger is too great for delay. God is urgent. Let us not procrastinate. God is highly exalted above His creatures. His moral perfection stands in contrast to evil people and nations. His holy nature is your yardstick for morality. God alone can help us with our sin. Scarlet or crimson was the colour a deep-red permanent dye, and its deep stain was impossible to remove from clothing. The stain of sin seems equally permanent-only the blood of Jesus Christ can remove sin (Psalm 51:1-7)

Let us learn:-

I.  AN INVITATION TO A CONFERENCE.

  • Sinful men do not care to think, consider and look matters in the face.
  • If they reason, they rather reason against God than together with Him.
  1. Men prefer to attend to ceremonial observances, outward performances since these do not require any thought.
  2. Yet the matter is one which demands the most serious discussion and deserves it.
  3. For God matters of the soul, heaven and hell need wise counsel.
  4. It is most gracious on the Lord’s part to suggest a conference. Kings do not invite criminals to reason with them.
  5. The invitation is a pledge that God desires peace, He is willing to forgive and set things right.
  6. Come to God just as you are- Love invites us in all our sin and misery.

II. A SPECIMEN OF THE REASONING ON GOD’S PART.

  1. The one main ground of difference is honestly mentioned “Though your sins be as scarlet”
  2. God calls the most glaring sinners to come to Him.
  3. This ground of difference God Himself will remove “They shall be as white as snow”
  4. God will forgive and so end the quarrel.
  5. God will remove the offence perfectly. “As snow- as wool”
    • He will remove forever the guilt of sin.
    • He will discharge the penalty of sin.
    • He will destroy the dominion of sin
    • He will prevent the return to sin.
  6. God explains by His own word how this is done
    • Free forgiveness removes guilt
    • Full atonement averts punishment.
    • Regeneration by the spirit breaking the power of sin.
    • Constant (progressive) sanctification forbidding sins return.
    • The way of your return to God is made easy.
    • Consider the offer carefully, and talk with God about it once.

III. THIS SPECIMEN REASONING BY GOD IS AN ABSTRACT OF THE WHOLE ARGUMENT.

  • All objections are anticipated by Jehovah God!
  1. The greatness of our sins “red like crimson” is met with great atonement, which cleanses from all sin.
  2. The long experience of your sins “cloth dyed scarlet has lain long in the dye vat, the blood of Christ cleanses at once.
  3. The light against which your sins were committed is forgiven.
  4. The grieving of the Holy Spirit, even it is removed by Jesus Christ.
  5. The failure of your attempts to whiten your soul, to remove the crimson and scarlet, the Lord says “I have blotted out your sin.”

 

CONCLUSION

  • Come now, the Lord pleads with you.
  • Do not slight God’s invitation,
  • Be totally reconciled with your maker.
  • The Lord makes us as white as snow.
  • “Come, Now”, this is one of the greatest invitation of the Bible.
