PREACHER: REV. DR. WILLY MUTISO
TEXT: DANIEL 4 : 1 – 37.
INTRODUCTION:
Do you give God the credit for the success in your life? Find out what happened to a world ruler when he takes all the credit. Let us learn:
The prophecy (4:1-18).
Nebuchadnezzar had another dream. God was breaking through into this man’s life. Again, the other magicians, sorcerers, and enchanters had failed to interpret this dream. So he called the trustworthy Daniel. Daniel was terrified because the dream concerned the king (v.24-25).
“This is the interpretation, O king. You will be driven away from your people and will live with the wild animals. You will eat grass like cattle and be drenched with the dew of heaven.”
“Seven years will pass over you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men.”
Nebuchadnezzar had the opportunity to confess.
Nebuchadnezzar was still consumed with himself and his works.
The problem – pride (4:28-30).
We have all stood akimbo and declared: “look at what my hands have done!”
Nebuchadnezzar took the credit and the risk (v.28-30).
Be careful that you don’t forget the Lord (Deut. 8:11-18).
God knows that we are a proud people.
The price (4:31-33).
God brought judgment to his life.
He was driven away from the presence of people and began to eat grass like cattle.
His body was drenched with the dew of heaven.
His hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird.
Seven years passed while he was in this state.
He had been given twelve months to repent and he refused.
God views pride the same way today (Prov. 3:34; James 4:6).
The king was brought down to earth.
The prescription (v.27).
Repent. Be kind to the oppressed. Give God the credit.
He refused to repent.
The profession (v.34-35).
God gave Nebuchadnezzar a second chance.
Nebuchadnezzar professes the Lord:
“His dominion is an eternal dominion.”
“His Kingdom endures forever.”
“All the people of the earth are regarded as nothing.”
“He does as he pleases in heaven and on earth.”
“No one can hold back His hand.”
Nebuchadnezzar finally realized his dependence upon God.
CONCLUSION:
There is no success apart from God.
Are you ready to recognize and receive the Lord this morning?
Will you continue to run the risk or will you receive Christ into your life today?
