HOW PEOPLE OF GRACE HANDLE BURDENS AND BLESSINGS

SERIES: THE PEOPLE OF GRACE

TEXT: GALATIANS 6:1-10

Life is a combination of burdens and blessings. How do people of grace handle their burdens and blessings? So, every life is a composite of burdens and blessings! We are not in heaven yet. There is no “And they lived happily ever after” here on earth! We call that a fairy tale, that is not reality! The Bible is not a fairy tale, it is reality. Real people have burdens and blessings-Gal. 6:1-10. Let us learn:-

HOW PEOPLE OF GRACE HANDLE BURDENS-Gal. 6:1-5.

  1. Where do burdens come from?
  • When you know where burdens come from you can help prevent some burdens from coming.
  • Some burdens come because we are caught in a sin-Vs. 1.
  • When you are caught in a sin it always gives birth to a burden. Could be fornication, incest, stealing, lying, rebellion, adultery etc.
  • Being caught in a sin is never a blessing. Being caught in a sin is always a burden.
  • Sin beats you up. Sin blocks your progress.
  • Sin brings condemnation and guilt.
  • Sin is a liar, it lies to us and deceives us into believing our sin gives birth to a blessing.
  • We first see this lie in the Garden of Eden.
  • “You will not die, instead you will be like God.”
  • Sin disguises the burden underneath by putting a blessing on top. It is a blessing on the surface with a burden underneath.
  • “If anyone is caught in a sin.” Sin is always out to catch us, in order to catch us, sin must trap us.
  • A trap never looks like a trap to the object it is trying to trap.
  • A mouse trap does not look like a trap to the mouse. When the mouse sees the cheese is sees it as a blessing not a burden.
  • When you are caught in a sin you sooner or later experience a burden.
  1. Some burdens come because we are caught in the sins of others-Vs. 2.

Lie: my sin has no effect on someone else. My sin will never be a burden on someone else. “It is my life, it is my body, leave me alone, mind your own business.”

  • Everyone bears burdens that others have caused-(corruption in Kenya, medicines, roads, cheating in exams, bogus doctors, teachers, engineers, preachers etc.”
  • The Bible teaches that through the sin of Adam, death entered the world.
  • Many people fall trying to help others with the burdens (HIV/AIDS counselors.)
  • They fall into the same temptation, you try to help a negative person, you become negative yourself.
  • You try to help a fornicator, you fornicate yourself.
  • Only those who are spiritual (mature) ought to intervene in raising the fallen!!
  • Never take more than you can handle. Don’t think you can work 100 hrs. per week.
  1. Some burdens come because of just doing life-Vs. 5.
  • Some burdens come not because of sin but because of responsibilities given to us.
  • The more responsibilities we have the more burdens we carry.
  • Notice Paul does not call them burdens but “LOADS.”
  • How do people of grace handle burdens?
  • There are burdens we are to bear and some burdens we are to share.
  • The burden we are to bear are the loads of everyday-(responsibilities).
  • There are things that no one should do for you-you are not a baby.
  • A neglected load becomes a burden to another.
  • When you refuse to do your responsibilities (load), you responsibilities becomes a burden to others.
  • Loads we bear but burdens we share.
  • The burdens we share are those things that are too great for us to bear alone.
  • Jesus Christ came to carry the burden of our sins to the cross (At the cross, at the cross).

QUALIFICATIONS FOR CARRYING BURDENS OF OTHERS.

  1. Those who are spiritual enough (Those who are mature) a mature person is a person who is able to carry his own burden and the burdens of others).
  • First of all can you carry your own load (weight)?
  • Are you mature, physically, socially, spiritually, economically, emotionally?
  1. Are we gentle enough to help carry the burden of another-Gal. 6:6-10?

WHERE DO BLESSINGS COME FROM?

  • We need to know where blessings come from so we can go there to get a blessing.
  1. Blessings come from following the instructions found in God’s word-Psalm 1.
  2. Blessings come from sowing to please the Holy Spirit.
  3. Blessings come from persevering and not giving up.
  4. You get bigger blessing back than what you gave.

HOW TO HANDLE YOUR BLESSING.

  • You share your blessings!!
  1. With those who bless you, “I will bless those who bless you.”
  • You don’t bless to get a blessing. You bless because you have received a blessing.
  • Don’t just share your burdens with others, share your blessings also.
  1. Bless those who are in the family of believers.
  2. Bless all people!!
  • Be known as a giver. It is more blessed to give than receive. Imitate God.
