SERIES: “UNDER THE SUN.”
TEXT: ECCLESIASTES 11:1-10.
“Cast your bread on the waters.” There are kingdom secrets Ecclesiastes 11.
Ecclesiastes was written by one of the wisest men that ever lived. When God speaks about bread, He is talking about those things that you have which you can commit to Him such as your talents, finances, ministry and your gifting. The Bible teaches us that this is the way of kingdom.
Many of us struggle in so many areas of your lives because we tend to understand the word with our natural minds.
God encourages us to do things His way no matter what-Proverbs 14:12.
If we want to come to a place of abundance in our lives, we need to listen to what God says regardless of how silly it may sound to our ears.
The bread that King Solomon was talking about is anything we have. He was the wisest man who ever lived, but it was not his wisdom, it was God’s wisdom.
We all have different talents, abilities and gifts. However, if we do not throw them away we will not be effective in the kingdom.
Solomon is saying “Cast it.” There are things that need to be cast away God’s way, so that when it returns it will become a blessing. Many people are in spiritual offices representing God, but rely on their own talents and gifts.
They have never ever given gift to God, because it doesn’t make sense to them to “Cast bread.”
When you cast something that is precious to you and walk away from it, the water is going to take it away. You cannot take back!!
God’s way is the way of the kingdom living. It may not make sense but it is God’s way.
Nothing that is cast away God’s way is ever lost. What you cast away God’s way will always last. Casting means you give it away.
If you have problems with people, cast them away to God. Let God deal with them. When things do not work cast them to God. That is God’s wisdom. If it is your marriage, finances, talents, it will come back to you in different form. It will be better and not a burden. Proverbs 10:22, “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich and He adds no sorrow with it.” “Cast you cares” on Jesus, let God deal with it because He knows the problem and He knows the solution.
God has not called you to a life of misery, but to a life of joy, peace and abundance. Let us look at the principles of casting away:-
NO DEPOSIT, NO RETURN-Eccl. 11:1.
- If you give nothing you will receive nothing. This is a kingdom principle. If you don’t give anything over to God, God cannot fix them.
- If you do not pray, you cannot be answered prayer.
- If you do not give an offering and tithe, you cannot receive a harvest.
- If you do not witness to people, souls are not going to be saved.
- God will always ask you what you have. God will not give you things if you have not given something first!!
- God does not do anything with nothing.
- If you multiply zero with a million, the return is nothing.
- God does not reward “Nothing.” God will not reward idleness, but He rewards faith with works.
THE RETURN WILL ALWAYS TAKE TIME-Eccl. 11:1
“You will find it after many days”-2nd Peter 3:8, James 5:7.
- Many Christians do not fulfill their potential. It is because they do not want to stay for the long term.
- Be prepared to wait by faith no matter how long it takes and never give up on your seed.
- Don’t try to assist God, Let everything happen at His own time.
- Never try to hasten the incubation period that God has set for you.
BE A RISK TAKER-Eccl. 11:1, “Cast your bread.”
- Each part of God’s plan for your life is activated by taking a risk.
- In order for Solomon to excel in prosperity for his nation, he loaded precious merchandise onto ships and cast them into waters.
- Risks were very high, the journey was always treacherous and uncertain, unpredictable storms and pirates.
- He did not have insurance policies in those days to protect their merchandise, they took the risk.
- They had faith that their ships would return and bring all the rewards with them, after a long time.
- Everybody in the church, every leader must have a portfolio-No leader at large.
- God will never give you further instructions unless you obey the first instructions He gave you.
- God told Abraham to leave-He never spoke to Abraham again until he had moved.
GIVE OVER AND ABOVE EXPECTATIONS-Eccl. 11:2.
- Never focus on one thing, we live in a world where the future is uncertain.
- Today the only thing that is certain are promises of God to those who follow Him sincerely.
- In this uncertain time and world your future can only be secure when you cast out by faith.
- The world is in a desperate place, no one has the answer to world’s problems.
- No earthly leader has the answer for his people to live in safety and security.
- As a child of God go the extra mile and give more-Matthew 13:45-46.
- There are so many people in the world who are seeking the truth. They are seeking for the secrets of life.
- The man in Matthew 13:45-46 went on an endless journey seeking the secrets of life that were really worth finding and owning.
- The secrets of the kingdom are treasures that are priceless and timeless. When he found the truth, he invested his entire life into it.
- When we discover the secrets of God’s kingdom, we should give up everything to buy them and apply them radically.
DO NOT MAKE EXCUSES-Eccl. 11:3-4.
- In life, bad things will happen to good people.
- Family, marriage, children, financial and past issues will always be there.
- Never wait until all problems end so that you can “Cast your bread upon the waters.”
- The best time to start doing something for God and start casting things upon the water is now.
- Now is the day of salvation, present yourself to God today by faith.
EXPECT THINGS BEYOND YOUR UNDERSTANDING-Eccl. 11:5-6.
- Always expect a miracle from God. God knows your situation, your problems and your unique challenges.
- For your unique challenges, God has a unique solution for you. Nothing is too hard for God.
- Cast your cares upon Him. He cares for you.
HE WAS THERE ALL THE TIME-Eccl. 11:9-10.
- Doing life can be tough and there are so many times when we may think we will never be able to survive.
- But when you look back on your life, those occasions are a distant memory.
- The days of darkness, suffering and affliction are very few compared to the days of darkness.
- God is faithful. As you trust Him day by day and sow into His kingdom, you will enjoy a future harvest, your future is secure with God.
KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE BIG PICTURE-Eccl. 11:9-10.
- Enjoying the benefits of the kingdom means we have to plan what we want and then sow and wait.
- The blessings do not come in a day, a week, a month or a year. It takes years and years to reap a harvest.
- There are principles of the kingdom that are everlasting and never change.
- If you seek the treasures of God’s secrets you will find them. And when you do find them sacrifice everything, follow them and enjoy their benefits.
- The thing of the kingdom are priceless and everlasting, but be patient.
- Cast your life as a seed or bread and you will discover what God puts back into your life.
- The best thing that you can do is give your life over to Jesus-Matt. 6:33.
CONCLUSION
- Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
- When opportunities knocks, answer the door.
- Prepare for the tomorrow what you can do today (D. L Moody 8/10/1871-A week to decide-Chicago fire).
- Don’t put all your eggs into one basket.
- Don’t wait until adulthood to make a difference for the kingdom of God start today.
