NEVER SELL YOUR BIRTHRIGHT.

RECLAIMING STOLEN IDENTITY AND MISPLACED DESTINY.

GENESIS 25:20-34, HEBREWS 12:14-17

Destiny helpers are people placed in your life by God to help you reach your destiny. Destiny killers are people assigned by the devil to kill God’s plan for your life. The brighter your destiny, the more effective are destiny killers assigned to your life. As a child of God your destiny killers must stop or God will trouble them. He will take away their peace and send them to a journey they will never return!! God Himself is a destiny helper. Psalms 54:4-5 “Behold God is my helper, the Lord is the upholder of my life. He will return the evil to my enemies, in your faithfulness, put an end to them.”

The Holy Spirit is your destiny helper. John 14:15-16 “If you love me you will keep my commandments and I will ask the Father and He will give you another helper to be with you forever.”

Angels will help your destiny. 1 Kings 19:4-8 “An Angel of the Lord came again a second time and touched him and said, Arise and eat for the journey is too great for you.”

Jesus will help in your destiny. 1 John 2:1 “We have an advocate with the Father Jesus Christ the righteous.”

People will be sent to come and help you as destiny helpers. Let us learn:-

  1. THE SIGNIFICANCE OF IDENTITY.
  • Without identity, there can be no destiny
  • 1 Peter 2:9-10 “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a Holy nation, a people for His own possession that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people. Once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
  • Without identity you will only live an accidental lifestyle, waiting for things to happen.
  • Whatever has the most influence on you is what you follow.
  • If your appetite wins, you follow your appetite but not your reason.
  • The prodigal son’s identity was the Father’s son.
  • But his appetite took him out of his destiny.
  • Judas walked with the destiny maker, yet Judas got lost for greed, for money and power.
  • Demas -2 Tim. 4:10 “Demas has forsaken me because he loves this present world.”
  • Gehazi left the prophet Elisha to follow after gold.
  • Esau sold his birthright (identity).
  • When we accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we became Kings in God’s Kingdom.
  • By the right of our new birth in Christ, we gain power and privileges.
  • Some squander their identity by selling own identity.
  1. ESAU AND JACOB WERE UNIDENTICAL TWINS.
  • They were different in appearance.
  • They were different in character and manners.
  • They were different in personal interest and desires.
  • They were different in personal appeals.
  1. Esau was a wild man (Gen. 25:27)
  • Esau was a canning hunter, a man of the field.
  • He was a skillful hunter, outdoor kind of boy.
  • He went for everything physical but Esau had no interest in spiritual things.
  • Esau was rough, wild, free, exciting.
  • He always made rush decisions, he lived for the moment like Samson, he had no thought for the future.
  • Esau was a “Nike” kind of person “Just do it.” “If it feels good, do it.”
  • Esau had no time for God or the future.
  1. Jacob was a gentleman-Gen. 25:27 “Jacob was plain man dwelling in tents.”
  • The word plain in Hebrew means sincere, quiet, peaceful, pious”
  • He took seriously life’s ordinary duties.
  • He considered the consequences of his actions, he thought about heavenly things.
  • He considered how decisions will affect the future.
  • Although Jacob was not perfect, he realized that God had a plan for his life-destiny
  1. We live in a cause and effect universe.
  • Esau despised the things of God-(Gen. 25:30, 32, 34)-his birthright.
  • Esau came home hungry and tired to find Jacob making stew.
  • Esau told his brother “Feed me, I pray thee with some of your red pottage, for I am faint”
  • “Behold I am on the point to die and what profit shall this birthright do to me?”
  • He had no regard for the future, no regard for God.
  • Esau despised his birthright, he treated it worthless or to hold it in contempt.
  • My friends, we despise God and show contempt to Him when we consider spiritual things as optional.
  • Death and life are in the power of the tongue-Prov. 18:21.
  • On the other hand Jacob cherished the things of God-Gen. 25:31, 33.
  • “Swear to me.” Esau knew of Jacob’s commitment to God.
  • In Jacob we see motive, mindset, and desire.
  • While Esau thought how to fill his stomach, Jacob thought of how he could fill his future.
  • We say Jacob deceived his brother Esau, but it was a deal. Everything was on the table!

  • MEANING OF ESAU’S BIRTHRIGHT BEING SOLD MEANT THREE THINGS.

In Hebrews 12:14-17, we see the implications of Esau’s actions

  1. Esau gave up the privilege of being a priest.
  • The first born son was specially consecrated or given over to God.
  • In heathen cultures the firstborn son was given as sacrifice to pagan gods.
  • In Israel the firstborn son was given to Jehovah God to serve Him.
  • Esau would have had the privilege of representing his family before God as the priest of the whole family.
  • When Esau sold his birthright, he transferred and gave up the priesthood hence exchanged destiny. Don’t sell your priesthood.
  • Don’t tread the opportunity for direct access to God for momentary pleasures.
  1. Esau gave up the promises-a double portion of his father’s estate.
  • The firstborn always got the double portion among the sons.
  • Esau gave up the future, the Messiah, the Christ. We would be saying the “God of Esau” today.
  • Please don’t sell the promises of God-(Numbers 23:19; 2 Peter 3:9; Isaiah 53:5; Isaiah 49:25; Matt. 28:20; Isaiah 43:2).
  1. Esau gave up his authority and power.
  • In his father’s absence, Esau had authority over his siblings, provided for his mother and all unmarried sisters.
  • Don’t sell your power as a child of God.
  • Don’t tread your spiritual authority for short lived pleasures.
  • God has given us power over sin, flesh and Satan.
  • The seven-fold power of the child of God is given to us.
  1. The resurrection power-Romans 8:11
  2. The enthronement power to sit over the thrones-Eph. 1:18
  3. The far-above all power-Eph. 1:21
  • This power separates anyone that believes in Christ from dominion by the power of darkness.
  1. The dominion power-Eph. 1:22. Forces of darkness submit to us who believe.
  2. The power of supremacy-Rom. 1:22
  3. The unifying power of Christ with the church-Rom. 1:22
  4. The manifesting power.

Esau sold it all, but don’t sell your priesthood, don’t sell the promises of God, don’t sell your

power.

  • Jesus Christ, Adam, Joseph, Judas, Daniel were all tempted to sell their birthrights.

CONCLUSION

Prayer points

  • I will not sell my priesthood.
  • I will not sell God’s promises.
  • I will not sell my power.
  • Aaronic blessings-

(Numbers 6:23-27)

“The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.

The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.

So shall the name of the Lord be upon you and bless you. Amen.

  • Are you saved? Just give your life to God now.
