SERIES: MY GOD IS MY DELIVERER
TEXT: MARK 11:13-21
A curse is like cancer. It destroys and kills finally.
When a man or woman is under a curse, his or her heaven is closed. His earth is as hard as bronze.
A person under cursed may labor like an ant and eat like an elephant
When curses are in place, they are very effective
Look at the fig tree – it withered immediately.
I. SILENT CURSES
- Trusting in man (Isaiah 31:1-3)
- Destruction for those who look to Egypt (world) for help.
- Egyptians are mere humans. Problem sharing is not always helpful.
- 75% of the people you share your problems can do nothing about your problems.
- 90% of people you share with have bigger problems than you.
- People who matter do not care, and those who care do not matter. People who have the capacity to help don’t care and those who care have no capacity to help you.
- Things don’t work for many because we look to men.
- Trusting people is idolatry, idolatry is an evil trap
- Deuteronomy 7:25 – don’t take distastable things from men, not their silver or gold.
- God will use people to bless you, but your focus should be on God not people. The source and not the channel.
- God is the source of life not men and women, not your tribe or race
- In Jeremiah 17:5-6, the Lord says, “Cursed are those who put the trust in mere humans and turn their hearts from the Lord.
V.6 they are like stunted shrubs in the desert- with no hope for the future. They will live in the barren wilderness.
- Trust God first, men are secondary, husbands wives die or change their minds, brothers and sisters can forsake. Humans do not keep their promises. Only God is faithful. His promises are YES and Amen.
- Those who trust in man miss golden opportunities daily
- God will never share His glory
- Choose today who you will put your trust.
- Deceitful work (Jeremiah 48:10)
- “Cursed be those who refuse to do the work that God has given to them. Those who hold their swords from shedding blood”
- Always work for your pay!! Do not abandon your responsibility.
- Rebellion (2Sam.15:6-18)
- Absalom died
- God places the lonely in families, He sets the prisoners free and gives them joy – but to rebels these is only famine, and distress (Psalm 68:6)
- Never fight constituted authority, family, government employer, church etc.
- Wrong use of the tongue (Numbers 12:1-2)
- Miriam used her tongue wrongly
- The negative confession of others and yourself (Numbers 14)
- Laziness, incest, dishonor to parents, repaying evil for evil.
II. HOW TO GET RID OF CURSES
- Curses can only be reversed through obedience Deut.28 and Leviticus 26
- Get rid of curses through obedience to God.
- To reject Christ attracts an eternal curse.
- The children of Levi and Simon were under curse from Jacob (Gen.39) but through obedience to Moses, God blessed them.
