THE LAST LAUGH

PSALM 2:1-12

INTRODUCTION

The white people say “He who laughs last laughs loudest”. The Psalmist David said, “God laughs last and loudest”. This Psalm speaks of God’s ultimate rule. It was a psalm of coronation celebration of a King of Israel. But it is also written for the coronation of Christ, the eternal King (Acts 4:25-26). People often think that they will be free if they get away from God, yet, we all inevitably serve somebody or something, whether a human authority, organization or even our human desires. Just as a fish is not free when out of the water or a tree out of the soil, so we are not free when we leave the Lord. In v.9, “Thou shall break them with a rod of iron, thou shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel”. God laughs at His enemies and laughs them to scorn. He laughs last and He laughs loudest.

Let us learn:-

I.   WHO ARE GOD’S ENEMIES?

  1. All those who oppose the gospel and all the lovers of the world are the enemies of God. (I John 3:15; James 4:4)
  • Those who are comfortable with the world system and the way it operates, are God’s enemies.
  • Although we are in the world, we are not of this world.
  • Let us hang loose of this world system because time is short (I Cor.7:29-31)
  1. All those who hate the truth. Some people will prefer to believe lies than to believe the truth.
  • Once you prefer lies to the truth, you are an enemy of God.
  1. All those who are not born again.
  • As far as God is concerned, the Spirit of the power of the air controls all unbelievers.
  • It does not matter how educated, powerful, famous, beautiful or handsome they are if they are not born again they are enemies of God. (Eph.2:1-4; 11-13)
  1. All those who attack God’s children. Apostle Paul before the Damascus road experience was an enemy of God (Acts 9:1-5)
  • God sees those who attack His children as jokers. (Psalm 37:12)

II.  WHAT WILL GOD DO? (V.9)

  • “He shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel”
  • People like Pharaoh and Haman, understood the message very well when they fought against the children of God. (Pro.1:24)
  • If God asks you to stop drinking or smoking or going around with strange women or men or moving about like a ghost at night and you refuse then see (Pro.1:25-26)
  • All those who hear God’s call and pleadings and remain unrepentant, God say He will laugh when their own calamities begin to come.
  • “The rod of Elisha is not going to function in the hand of Gehazi” the enemy of the power in the rod was inside Gehazi.
  • A pastor may have the best cassock in the world and yet there is a conflict between the cassock and the wearers.
  • A person can have a godly name and not be godly.
  • Don’t let God laugh at you, but boast in God like Elijah (I Kings 18:25-27)
  • When you are in the camp of God, you can mock and laugh at all the decisions and strategies of the enemy-Because God laughs at them to scorn.

III. WHY DOES GOD STAY SILENT SOMETIMES?

  1. To give us the opportunity to develop our faith.
  • Most strong prayer warriors are those who have had to watch and pray at times when God is silent.
  • God allows it to happen before He starts His laughter.
  1. To prove that the enemy does not have all the power, God has the final say.
  2. God allows things to go rough sometimes before He delivers His people to make them develop unshaken confidence in Him.
  3. God sometimes allows the heat to be so bad before He comes to strengthen our faith to teach us some spiritual lessons.
  • The believer will always have the last laugh.
  • Noah and his family had the last laugh, after 120 years of being laughed at.
  • Daniel had the last laugh at the lion’s den.
  • The three Hebrews youth had the last laugh when the fire could not burn them.
  • David had the last laugh after 20 years of being chased around by King Saul.
  • The Children of Israel had the last laugh when Pharaoh drowned in the red sea.
  • It was prophet Micaiah who laughed last after 400 prophets misadvised King Ahab to go to war. Ahab died in that war (I Kings 22)
  • Why did Paul pass through horrible things?
  • It does not matter the wind of adversity and rivers of problems you are passing through now, Just ensure that you are the friend of God- God just laughs those your enemies to scorn.

CONCLUSION– Prayer

  1. Anything in me that is your enemy, O Lord, chase them out today- In the Name of Jesus.
  2. I dissolve every evil agreement with the enemy of God, in the Name of Jesus.
  3. All spiritual vultures working against me, be defeated in Jesus Name.
  4. Let all the vows and promises of the enemy on my life be Nullified in the Name of Jesus.
  5. Father Lord, arise and my enemies be scattered, let it be known that you are my God, in the Name of Jesus.
  6. Let the fire of God purge away every evil deposit in my life, in the Name of Jesus.
