Power is the ability or capacity to do something or act in a particular way (Ability, Capacity, Capability).

Power is the capacity or ability to direct our influence the behavior of others or the course of events.

Power is the possession of control, authority or influence over others.

There are at least four types of power:-

  • Expert power derived from knowledge or skill.
  • Referent power derived from a sense of identification others feel towards you.
  • Power of reward. This is power derived from an ability to reward others.
  • Coercive power is derived from fear of punishment by others.

Other powers include information, connection and legitimate leadership power, position, charismatic, power and moral. The most powerful of all powers referent power and coercive power is often the least effective but most employed and abused.

Power is important in that without it we cannot accomplish our goals- Acts 1:8.

In order for God’s work to be done, power must be released to us.

God has designed a school of power for His children to enable them to flow in His great power at the fullness of time.

The school of power is a process which God passes us through. Many Christians enroll in God’s school of power but they fail to finish the program. Some people fail but some pass because they are willing to pass the discipline. Again those who pass through God’s school of power don’t get the same grade (A, B, C, D, E). The question is, do you really desire to have power? Are you willing to pay the price whatever it may cost you? When you pass the school of power, the certificate you receive is called the Mantle power.

The mantle power is an outward manifestation of God’s power. 1st Cor.4:20- “For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.”

Acts 1:8- “And you will receive power after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you and you shall be witnesses unto me, both in Jerusalem and in Judea and in Samaria and into the uttermost parts of the earth.”

The word power in the Bible in Greek is “Dunamis” from which word we get the word “Dynamite.” “You shall receive Dunamis. After that the Holy Spirit is come upon you.”

“Holy Spirit is come upon you.” Let us learn:-

WHAT IS A DYNAMITE?

  • Dynamite is a powerful explosive used in mining.
  • Dynamite is used to blast and break mountains and big rocks.
  • It means that when you have the Holy Spirit, He will break every obstacle to the glory of God.
  • When the power of the Holy Spirit comes upon you, every hindrance on your way is exploded.
  • This dynamite power can only come upon you when you yield your life fully unto God.
  • Isaiah 55:12- for you shall go out with the joy and be led forth with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”
  • There is a “Going forth” and “A being led forth.”
  • It is very easy to go out with sadness without joy.
  • Many people go out sad and come back frustrated and with nothing accomplished.
  • Here the Bible says, “You will be led in the peace of God. That means the peace of God will go with you even in a bad environment.”
  • The Bible says, “As many as are led by the Holy Spirit, they are the children of God.”
  • As the spirit of God leads your forth in this dark world, you will be at peace.
  • The mountains and hills mentioned in this passage refer to hindrances on your way. Such hindrances will break forth into singing and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
  • Everything will work for your peace.
  • You and I need the mantle of power urgently.

WHY DO WE NEED THE MANTLE OF POWER?

  1. To witness Christ to the world- Acts 1:8.
  • Wherever you go, the fullness of Christ will spring forth through you.
  1. To do exploits for God- Daniel 11:32.
  • In difficult situations, such people will be able to prevail by reason of the mantle of power.
  1. The mantle of power is emblem to God’s presence.
  • The presence of God is a terror to the enemies all the time- Psalm 16:11.
  • The joy of God will be a mantle of power upon you.
  1. The ransom from destroyers- Hosea 13:14- “I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death; O death I will be thy plagues; O grave I will be thy destruction; repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.”
  • You need the mantle of power to be free from the power of the destroyers.
  • The enemy is out to steal, to kill and to destroy. But by the power of the Holy Spirit, you will be preserved.
  1. For the manifestation of Christ; His manifestation is the mantle of power- Acts 1:8.
  2. To prevent our hearts from fainting- Isaiah 40:29- “He giveth power to the faint and to them that have no might, He increaseth strength.”
  • The situation in the world is horrible. Power is needed to strengthen our hearts.
  • Satanic technology is increasing and advancing our own strength is not adequate to cope.
  • Very many believers are fainting- they seriously need God’s power to increase their strength.
  1. To prepare for the battles of life.
  • The battle with the kingdom of darkness and put on the armor of light.

HOW TO RECEIVE THE MANTLE OF POWER- 1st Kings 19:19-21

  • Let us learn how Elisha received the mantle of power.
  1. Elisha obeyed God’s call.
  • You and I know that God is calling us to specific things but there are excuses and delays to the call.
  • Most of us are procrastinating and frustrating the grace of God.
  • If you want the armor of God you will have to respond urgently to the call of God upon your life.
  1. Elisha made preparations to follow Elijah diligently without looking back.
  • He gave his parents a parting kiss and left.
  • He killed his bulls and burned the yokes, fed the people and fed the people and left.
  • The children of Israel had no water until they dug the ditches- 2nd Kings 3:16.
  • There was no healing for Naaman until he dipped himself 7 times in the Jordan.
  • You must be ready to surrender all to Christ.
  1. Elisha did not make provision for any eventuality.
  • He “Burned every bridge” never to go back on 2nd Kings 2:11-14.
  • Elijah told Elisha to get a double portion of his power, he must be diligent until he sees Elijah taken up.
  • Without this mantle of power, power of darkness will operate in a greater dimension and a lot of people would be rendered captive.
  • Let us lay it all at the altar.

CONCLUSION: Prayer

  • Oh Lord, I rend my heart today before you in the name of Jesus.
  • O God, endue me with the mantle of power in Jesus name.
  • I pray that the Holy Spirit should put the sword of victory in my hand today.
  • Let every evil priest ordained against me receive confusion in the name of Jesus Christ.
  • Every spirit of war working against my life and family, be paralyzed in the name of Jesus.
  • All satanic agents planning trouble for my life, family, church and country, be paralyzed in the Name of Jesus.
  • Let the spirit of peace reign in this nation. Give us abundance of rain and produce in this nation in the name of Jesus.
