THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

SERIES: POWER

TEXT: ACTS 10:38

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him”-Acts 10:38.

The power of the Holy Spirit was on Jesus and it manifested in visible miracles, signs and wonders. In a similar way when the power came upon the Apostles, God was confirming their message with signs and wonders.

The church of Jesus Christ needs the power of the Holy Ghost today more than ever before.

We live in a time when people need to see the signs and wonders for them to believe and for those who have believed to hold without wavering.

In Samaria, it would have been possible for Philip to win the people from the hold of the deception of the magician if not that the Holy Ghost manifested His power through him. The people saw greater miracles and power that was being displayed by the magician himself- Acts 8:5-13.

  • If the church will be effective in the preaching of the gospel to the dying world today, we need the manifestation of the power of the Holy Spirit and we can get it if we are ready to walk in obedience to the word of God. Ready to be used by God and willing to return all the glory back unto Him.

Let us consider the power of the Holy Spirit in four dimensions:-

THE CREATIVE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

  • Job 26:13-

“By His spirit, He hath garnished the heavens, His hand hath formed the crooked serpent.”

  • The creation of the heavens above us is said to be the work of God’s spirit.
  • The work of the Holy Spirit is displayed in those continuous acts of creation which are still performed in the world such as the creation and birth of men and women, animals, birds and all creatures in the sea and on earth.
  • Jesus Christ was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit- Luke 1:35.
  • The physical body of Jesus Christ was the master piece of the Holy Spirit.
  • New things are missing but needed can be created by Him. He promised to make a way in wilderness and rivers in the desert.

THE RESTORATIVE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

  • The Holy Spirit has power to restore what has been stolen, killed and destroyed.
  • Jesus Christ was manifested so as to destroy the works of the devil through the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • It was the power of the Holy Spirit by which the body of Jesus was raised from the grave after having laid there for three days and nights- 1st Peter 3:18, Romans 8:11.
  • Let us thank God for the restorative power of the Holy Spirit today.
  • Any part of your body that is dead can be restored back to life.
  • Dead brain, dead womb, dead organs can be able to be restored back to life by the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • Dead business, dead career, dead marriage, dead ministry will come back to life through the restorative power of the Holy Spirit.
  • God has promised to restore all the years that the caterpillar and the canker worms has eaten.
  • Whatsoever is missing, destroyed or stolen from us, can be restored by His power.

THE PROTECTIVE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

  • Another of the powers of the Holy Spirit is protective power.
  • When the enemy comes against us like flood, the Holy Spirit will rise a standard against the enemy.
  • The Holy Spirit is connected to our safety and security and will not allow the wicked to prevail over our lives.
  • As a child of God you are entitled to divine protection by the power of the Holy Spirit against danger and troubles both in the physical and spiritual.

THE DESTRUCTIVE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

  • The Lord is a consuming fire and the destructive power of the Holy Spirit.
  • Elymas became blind at the command of Apostle Paul- Acts 13:6-12.
  • The judgement of God came over Ananias and Sapphira his wife when Peter declared that they had lied to the Holy Spirit and not to man.

CONCLUSION

  • In case you are not born again, please give your life to Jesus Christ today.
  • In case you are backslidden, confess your sin now and be restored to God the Holy Spirit.
  • Let us embrace the presence, the power and the filling of the Holy Spirit.
