SERIES: LIVING BY FAITH.
TEXT: HEBREWS 13:8
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today and forever.”
Life is divided into three distinct seasons or times. The past or yesterday, the present or today and the future or tomorrow. Life changes constantly and the seasons of life are interwoven, one affects the other. The only constant thing in life is change and the only unchangeable being is Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. The world is ever changing, but we serve a God who never changes. The answer to every problem is Jesus Christ. God is good yesterday, today and forever. Let us trust that Jesus Christ is the yesterday, today and forever. The big theological word for this attribute of God is “Immutability”-unchanging, constant and perfect.
If you have Jesus Christ in your life, then you are sure of one thing, whatever promise He made or makes in your life is sure to come to pass. He will never, never fail you. The grace to do the right things at the right times, God the Father will grant to you in Jesus name. Let us learn: The seasons of life and the unchanging Savior.
THE SEASON OF LIFE.
The past or yesterday.
- The past is gone, it cannot be recovered except in history and its memories.
- The past is divided into two parts, the good and the bad. Both of them intrude into the present and the future-Isaiah 43:18 says, “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.”
- Don’t dwell on the evil of the past.
- When you are born again, the terrible records of the past are wiped out-2nd 5:17.
- Don’t get stuck to your past to the extent that you cannot move forward, (Accept, Adjust, Advance).
- Every power taking you to evil days of Egypt may the fire of God consume in Jesus name.
- The hand of the Almighty God will carry you from your destiny past and transport you to your destiny in Jesus name.
- Instead of dwelling on the past, the Bible says in Phil. 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, think of these things.”
- Speak of your testimony of what God has done for you in past.
The present or today (Now).
- Today is the present, the here and now.
- Today has two categories “present present” and “present future” (present continuous) Isaiah 43:19; 2nd 6:2; Exodus 14:3-4.
- Every battle you are facing today, the Lord will take over the fight for you in Jesus name.
- God is in your Now, in your every moment.
- Deuteronomy 2:25, as you walk with God daily, He will provide your daily bread and protect and sustain you-in Jesus name.
- Today is made of 24 hours, the present is now, the present future is the remaining hours.
- Christianity is a daily walk with God.
- Today is the most important day of your life.
- May the grace of God be sufficient for you today-in Jesus name.
The future or tomorrow.
- The future is not in your hands, but your thoughts today shapes your tomorrow.
- The future is divided into two-The temporal (earthly) and eternal future.
- Many people are consumed by worries and anxieties about their tomorrow, ruining their today.
- Others are tormented by their past and weighed down by their tomorrow. This ruins their today-Matt. 6:30; Proverbs 27:1.
- Your future is in the hands of God-Jer. 29:11.
- In your planning and plans trust Him who is the same yesterday, today and forever-Prov. 3:6; Psalm 37:23.
- Every day seek God-Matt. 6:33.
- Always confess:
“My Yesterday is forgiven, I walk with my Savior day by day by His grace and my tomorrow is secure in His hands.”
THE UNCHANGING SAVIOR.
- Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is unchanging God in a changing world.
The Lord is our unchanging refuge and strength in a rapidly changing world.
- He is our anchor when we face many changes which affect deeply.
- Changes are everywhere, home, work place, relationships, finances, health, culture. Fashion, laws, government, status and people.
- Changes can be sudden and traumatic, but we have a sure foundation-Deut. 33:17.
The Lord is our unchanging refuge and strength in all situations we face in life.
- At the cross all his disciples left Him.
- God will be with you even when everyone leaves and forsakes you.-Joshua 1:5; John 16:32.
The Lord is our unchanging refuge and strength even when the hearts of people change and their love turns to hate.
- The love of God never changes.
- The hearts and faces of people can change and they may turn against us.
- People who used to favor us may change their minds and attitudes towards us-Jer. 31:5; Genesis 31:5.
The Lord is our unchanging refuge and strength even if everyone has forgotten us due to our low status.
- Everyone remembers us when we are prosperous and powerful.
- But only our true friends remember us in times of need and loneliness-Psalm 136:23; Prov. 14:20.
The Lord is our unchanging refuge and strength even when we face changes in our financial and social conditions.
- He is the unchanging provider-Psalm 37:25; Deut. 8:3-4; Matt. 6:25-34.
The Lord is our refuge and strength even when our physical strength wanes away.
- The Lord will take care of us even in our times of weakness and old age.
- He cared for Jacob during his 147 years and proved His faithfulness.
- We can trust Him to care for us in our old age and weak condition.
- We need not worry about our future in our old age-Isaiah 46:4; Gen. 48:15-16.
The Lord is our unchanging refuge and strength even if our family and friends forsake us.
- Even our earthly parents cannot take care of forever. But the Lord will always be there for us.
- Sometimes even family members and loved ones get tired and turn against us.
- Because we have chosen to follow Jesus Christ, people will forsake us, but the Lord will always be with us and strengthen us in such times-Psalm 27:10; Isa. 49:15; Matt. 10:21.
CONCLUSION
- Whatever season of life you are at Jesus Christ is the same.
- God is faithful all the time to all-because He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
- Will you trust and personally follow your unchanging Savior?
- Will you surrender your entire life to the unchanging Savoir now?
