THE THIRD ANOINTING

SERIES: THE ANOINTING

TEXT: PSALMS 92:10-15, 2 SAMUEL 3:1-2.

The anointing means power and authority. The anointing means the presence of God in our lives. It speaks of being possessed by the Spirit of God. Our experience of God and the authority of the Holy Spirit are progressive, Just like sanctification, the anointing is both positional and progressive. God wants to have more of us until we are totally surrendered to Him and His will. As His children, we have to desire a fresh touch of God and a greater dimension of God. Anointing like holiness is not a summit but a continuous ascend that ends in heaven itself. Our message this morning is one of many in our current series on the anointing.

Today let us look at the three anointing David received and the keys to receiving them .However, we need to remember that anointing is continuous and progressive as David himself tells us in Psalms 23:5 “You anoint my head with oil.”

I.  THE ANOINTING BY SAMUEL (1Sam 16:1, 12-13).

II.  THE ANOINTING BY JUDAH (2Sam 2:4).

  • “Then the men of Judah come, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah .And they told David, saying, “The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul.”

III.  THE ANOINTING BY ISRAEL. (2 Sam 5:3).

  • “Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron before the Lord. And they anointed David king over all Israel.”

IV.  THE PLACE OF THE ANOINTING (2 sam.31:2).

  • Hebron means communion, united, union or to tie together.
  1. Hebron is a place of faith .It was the place Abraham dwelt after his separation from Lot.
  • Lot means veiled or hidden, when you live with Lot you are wrongly motivated and negatively influenced.
  • Sometimes our lives attracts negative people, wrong people who delay us on our journey of faith. People who derails us from the road to our destiny.
  • Some people have a subtraction effects upon our lives, they take away our value, they minus our lives leaving us less than they found us.
  • Some people they divide us, splitting our lives, they leave us in pieces, they divide families and destroy marriages. They discourage us from living for God.
  • Some people have an additional effects on our lives, they add value on us, they motivate us to follow and love God more (Gen 13:18).
  • It was not until Lot left Abraham that Abraham build an altar to God.
  1. To remain in Hebron takes faith (gen 23:2).
  • Hebron was the place where Sarah was buried.
  • It speaks of the resting place of faith.
  1. Hebron is a place where promises are possessed (Numbers 13:22).Confession leads to
  • It is the place Joshua and Caleb saw with the ten spies in Canaan, which later Caleb inherited (Joshua 14:13-15).
  • It is the place of wholly following the living God, the God of Israel.
  1. Hebron results in fruitfulness and multiplication.
  • It was the place, the city where David had sons (II Sam 3:2), sons were born to David in Hebron.
  1. Hebron brings the fullness of salvation; Hebron was one of the 6 cities of refuge, (Joshua 20:2-7).
  • Hebron speaks of being free from judgement.
  • It was a walled city, a place of protection.
  • (Isaiah 60:18)-“violence shall no longer be heard in your land, neither wasting nor destruction within your borders, But you shall call your walls salvation and your gates praise.”
  • Hebron speaks of the communication, which we have in Jesus Christ.

V.  THE RESULTS OF THE THIRD ANOINTING (PSALMS 92:10-15)

  1. In the third anointing the kingdom is established (10).
  2. There is rest from enemies (v. 11).
  3. Flourishing in the House of the Lord (v.12-14).
  4. When you flourish in the presence of God, you are like a palm tree. Palm tree grow upright reaching to the sky, they resist pressures, and their life is seen in the head.
  5. Cedars of Lebanon are known because they go from height to height,-from strength to strength, faith to faith, grace to grace and glory to glory.
  6. In the third anointing you are straight –no curves in your life, you are made strong even in the tempests of life.

VI.  FLOURISH

  1. The first anointing frees us to be what God wants us to be, freedom from the power of sin.
  2. The second anointing fills us with praise and worship (Judah=praise) we become worshipers.
  3. The third anointing fulfills us to walk in the promises of God, vision and inheritance from God.
  • Psalms 92:13-Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.
  • Plasms 92:10-Oil is the Holy Spirit.
  • Fresh oil meaning renewal. Green life=resurrection.

CONCLUSION

  • Anointing means the power of the Holy Spirit in us.
  • We are filled with the Holy Spirit by faith through prayers.
  • In order to receive the third anointing;
  1. Be sure you are saved (born again).
  2. Confess every sin (known and unknown) in your life. (Isaiah 1:9).
  3. Know your rights as a child of God. Anointing is your right.
  4. Ask by faith, the powers of God in your life.
  5. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. The third anointing is yours for the asking.
