WAITING: WHEN, GOD, WHEN?

SERIES: LIVING HOPE

MESSAGE: WAITING: WHEN, GOD, WHEN?

TEXT: GENESIS 21:1-7; PSALM 27:14.

PREACHER: REV. DR. WILLY MUTISO.

This message is for everyone waiting for the promise of God. For everyone waiting upon God. You must be able to believe that God exists, that you matter to Him, that He is the God of all hope and comfort. For twenty five (25 years), God had been promising Abraham and Sarah that they would have a son. Year after year they waited. The window of opportunity for them having their own baby seemed to have closed. Genesis 21 is the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. It is my prayer for you this morning that, today will be the beginning of a turning point in your life, that there will be celebration, victory and glory in the Mighty name of Jesus Christ.

God’s promise came to pass; Sarah finally gave birth to a son, Isaac was born. The birth of Isaac wiped away Sarah’s tears and reproach. The birth of Isaac was a fulfilment of a promise, God fulfilled His promise. His word came to pass! In Micah 7:7, “Therefore I will look to the Lord, I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.”

May the same God who wiped away the tears and reproach of Sarah visit you and change your story, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Your story is in the hands of God. Let us learn:-

  1. EVERYONE HAS A STORY.
  • What is your story? You and I have certain promises given directly to us from the Lord that we are still waiting to be fulfilled.
  • You have cried a lot, you have prayed for days, weeks, months and years.
  • What are you waiting for God to do to your life and family?
  • You are single and waiting for a divine spouse? You are jobless, you have been waiting and praying for the fruit of your womb.
  • Maybe you are hoping for a divine visitation in your marital issues.
  • Maybe you are waiting for divine healing or for a scholarship. The answers will surely come.
  • “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage and He will strengthen your heart, wait, I say on the Lord”-Psalm 27:14.
  1. THE TRUTH ABOUT THE PROMISES OF GOD.
  • It’s impossible for God to lie!-Numbers 23:19.
  • God has a set time for the fulfilment of His promises.
  • There are unconditional and conditional promises.
  • An unconditional promise is not dependent on us doing anything to bring it to pass; its fulfilment is strictly up to God.
  • A conditional promise is a promise that has a condition or conditions attached to it-Isaiah 1:19-20.
  • It depends on us to do something in obedience to God-Matt. 7:7-8, 2nd 7:13-14.
  • Some promises of God are personal and some are general.
  • A personal promise is limited to one person at a particular time.
  • A general promise has no limitations and no expiration date. It is for all believers in all time periods.
  • The promises of God are certain but they don’t mature in 40 or 50 days.
  • Faith must believe the promise.
  • Hope must anticipate the promise.
  • Patience must quietly await the promise.
  • God’s timing is not our timing. While you are waiting believe that God is working for your interest. He will never abandon you.
  • There is often a struggle before we see the manifestation of the promise or prophesy.
  • As you wait upon God don’t take matters into your own hands like Abraham did.
  • Don’t put your trust in people over God.
  • We are never alone in our waiting. God is with us, giving us His strength.
  • Those who wait on the Lord wait in hope.
  • It is in times of waiting that many have failed in their faith and obedience.
  • Satan often attacks by trying to capitalize on divine delays. Satan wants us to doubt that God’s promise will ever be fulfilled.
  • The beauty of prayer is in the answers that follow. God answers the prayers of those who wait for Him.
  • God does not close His ears to the prayers of those who wait.
  • WAIT ON THE LORD.
  • Waiting is to hope. Hope is another word for waiting.
  • Waiting is to desire something you don’t have yet.
  • Waiting is to put your plans on hold in anticipation of a direction or instruction before proceeding.
  • If we stay in hope we will experience the final chapter of waiting which is to bring forth the awaited promises.
  • Waiting is anticipation. It is fully trusting in God’s timing while taking care of our obligations.
  1. WHY DOES GOD MAKE US WAIT FOR THE PROMISES?-HABAKKUK 2:3.

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

  • It is not the right time for you to receive your breakthrough.
  • You may be in a hurry, but God is not and He knows the perfect time to dispense His mercy-Isaiah 30:18.
  • The more you pray, the sweeter the answer will be when it comes-Isaiah 25:9.
  • God’s delay could have the purpose of training us for His calling. David waited 15 years to become Kind of Israel since the anointing by Prophet Samuel. God uses delay to teach us endurance-Rom. 5:3-4.
  1. BLESSINGS OF WAITING ON GOD.
  • God will not allow you to be put to shame-Isaiah 49:23.
  • You will experience the Lord’s goodness-Lamentations 3:25, “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him.”
  • Your prayers will be answered-Micah 7:7.
  • Assurance of protection and deliverance-Isaiah 43:2.
  • God will give you a new song-Isaiah 31:7.
  • The old song will give way to a new song.
  • Your strength will be renewed-Isaiah 40:31.
  1. WHAT TO DO WHILE YOU ARE WAITING ON GOD.
  • Stay connected, develop a relationship with God, seek His face daily-John 15:5.
  • Continue in steadfast prayer-Luke 18:1.
  • Trust in God, not your logic or understanding-Prov. 3:5.
  • Refuse to allow doubt and fear, refuse to worry and refrain from anger-Psalm 37:7-8.
  • Confess your faith, act as though it were already done.
  • Whatever you are going through now, is just a part of the process. Your joy is coming in the morning-Psalm 30:5.
  • Let me prophesy to somebody here:

“I prophesy into your life and family:

  • What you consider impossible shall become possible in your life-In the Name of Jesus Christ.
  • Closed doors of breakthrough will be open for you in the Mighty name of Jesus Christ.
  • Garments of shame, disgrace and reproach upon you is removed now, in the Mighty name of Jesus Christ.
  • By this time next year you will be holding your Isaac in your hands-In the Mighty name of Jesus Christ.

CONCLUSION-PRAYERS.

  • Father show me mercy and let your mercy prevail over the voice of accusations and condemnation in my life, in JESUS NAME.
  • My Father, visit me today and cause me to deliver my Isaac, in Jesus name.
  • My Father let your promises come to fulfilment in my life, in Jesus name.
