SERIES: THE PEOPLE OF GRACE
TEXT: GALATIANS 2:1-21
Paul now has been saved for 14 years. He goes to Jerusalem because of a relationship. It was a revelation of what God accepts and what God does not accept. There is a grace that God gives us to teach us to accept the things that God accepts and to oppose what God opposes-Titus 2:11-12. We need this kind of grace. Let us learn:-
PEOPLE OF GRACE ACCEPT WE HAVE FREEDOM IN CHRIST ALONE-Gal. 2:4-5.
- “Some false teachers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves. We did not give in to them for a moment…..”
- People of grace believes that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone.
- God accepts us on the basis of our faith in Christ.
- Many people believe that they must first get rid of what God opposes before they are accepted by God.
- However, God accepts us first and gives us the freedom to work on what God opposes.
- It is when we were yet sinners that Christ died for us.
- In Romans 8, we find that in Christ we are free from condemnation, defeat, fear, confusion and separation from God-Rom. 8:1-2.
PEOPLE OF GRACE ACCEPT THE TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL-Gal. 2:5.
- It is the truth that remains with you that sets you free.
- Truth itself will not set you free unless it remains with you.
- Freedom and truth are twins and they work together.
- The enemy opposes the remaining of the truth of the gospel in our society.
- So much of the truth of the gospel is not remaining in our society.
- It is being replaced by another gospel which is not really the gospel at all.
- Paul tells us that all of the gospel is true. It is the truth of the gospel. We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, through Jesus Christ alone, for the glory of God alone.
PEOPLE OF GRACE ACCEPT THE RACE WE HAVE TO RUN-Gal. 2:2
“For fear I was running or had run my race in vain.”
- Paul calls it “My race” not “our race.” Every believer is running his or her own race”-1st 9:24-27.
- Paul warns you and me that it is possible to run our race in vain or running our race in a way that would disqualify us from receiving the prize.
- The enemy would seek to have you disqualified distracted or discouraged, but keep your life centered on the gospel. Looking to Jesus Christ alone-Heb. 12:1-2.
PEOPLE OF GRACE ACCEPT THE TASK ENTRUSTED TO THEM-Gal. 2:7-8.
- Notice that Paul says that every believer has been entrusted with specific task.
- Different assignments for different people.
- Paul’s assignment was different from that of Peter.
- For each task assigned God gives the power to see the assignment accomplished.
CONCLUSION
- What is the assignment given to you by God since He saved you? Who does He want you to reach for Him?
