WHO ARE THE PEOPLE OF GRACE?

SERIES: THE PEOPLE OF GRACE

TEXT: GALATIANS 1:1-24

 

Today we want to learn about who the people of grace are and what grace has done for us. Today we will look at the picture or idea of grace. When you get a family photo or portrait done professionally, you are offered the same picture in different sizes. Let us look at the picture of grace in an 8 by 10 portrait of what it means to be people of grace.

The apostle wrote the book of Galatians. He founded the church of Galatian during his first missionary journey. Galatia is now in modern Turkey. After establishing the church of the Galatians as the people of grace, Paul moved to establish more churches.

No sooner had Paul left Galatia, false leaders came and through their false teachings, changed the churches into people of rules, rituals and religion. Paul now writes the book of Galatians to try to turn them from legalism back to people of grace. Today, let us look at seven answers to the question, “Who are the people of grace”:-

PEOPLE OF GRACE ARE PEOPLE SAVED BY GOD- Galatians 1:3-5

Every person needs to be saved from two enemies;

Their sins.

  • The lack of conformity to our violation of the moral will of God is a sin.
  • Sin is rebellion from God. Sin separates us from God- Isaiah 59:2.
  • Sin is anything unlike God.
  • Sin prevents us from spending an eternity with God.

The present evil age.

  • You and I can only be saved from our sins and this present evil age through God’s intervention of grace.
  • You and I are saved by the will of the Father and the work of the Savior.
  • It is God’s will to save us from our sins and from this present evil age.
  • If it were not His will no one could be saved.
  • When you allow Christ to rescue you, the result is grace and peace from God.
  • We receive grace and peace and God receives the glory forever.

PEOPLE OF GRACE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD- Gal.3:26-29

  1. You are sons and daughters of God.
  • Only those who have put their faith in Christ can become sons and daughters of God.
  • The moment you put your faith in Christ, you are baptized into Christ and God’s family by the work of the Holy Spirit.
  • You are clothed with the righteousness of Christ.
  • You are now more than Kenyan, African, European, American, Indian, Asian or Arab. You are a citizen of heaven.
  1. You are also sons and daughters of Abraham.

PEOPLE OF GRACE ARE PEOPLE SET APART FOR GOD.

  • Grace not only saves us, it also sets us apart for God.
  • We are set apart (Sanctified) by grace. We are set apart for the pleasure of God.
  • The pleasure of God is to reveal Jesus Christ in us that we might reveal Christ to others.
  • Grace sets us apart. It is not religion, rituals, rules that set us apart.

PEOPLE OF GRACE ARE PEOPLE SENT BY GOD- Gal 1:1

  • Paul starts his letter with the statement, “I am sent by God.”
  • This God who sends us is the God who raises up the dead, God who brings life to things that are dead.
  • Grace brings life to dead things- Eph. 2:1-2.

PEOPLE OF GRACE ARE PEOPLE WHO SPEAK FOR GOD- Gal.1:6-10

  • In this passage Paul is speaking for God. He received this right to speak for God through the grace of God.
  • Speaking for God is a matter of eternal consequences.
  • When we share the grace of the gospel of God we are speaking for God.
  • Not everyone who claim to be speaking for God is.
  • The people of Galatia were listening to wrong people.
  • When you speak for God you risk losing the approval of people.

PEOPLE OF GRACE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE STRENGTHENED BY GOD- Gal. 3:2-5

  • If you believe you are saved by observing the law, then the law will have to be source of your strength.
  • But since we are saved by grace, we are strengthened by grace of God.

PEOPLE OF GRACE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE SERVANTS OF GOD- Gal.5:13-15

  • We are called to be free to serve one another.
  • We have now a servant nature to combat our sinful nature.

CONCLUSION:-

  • Are you a person of grace?
  • Are you saved by the grace of God?
  • Are you working for God in your generation?
