WHO HAS BEWITCHED YOU?

SERIES: GALATIANS: BE FREE.

TEXT: GALATIANS 3:1-5.

 

When Paul wrote to the churches in Galatia about his concerns he described the people as being “foolish.”

He also questioned whether they had been bewitched.

It is not far-fetched to sometimes describe a person’s action or decision as being foolish. It is a fact of life that people make decisions in life that can be regarded as lacking rationale. It is also not unusual at one time or another for a man or woman to make a judgement that is viewed as unwise, absurd or even ridiculous. Intelligent people also make foolish choices, even the wise men made a foolish decision to enquire about the birth of Christ from Herod the Great!!

However, there is a difference between a person that is bewitched and a person exhibiting folly.

When a person is bewitched, such a person is under a powerful influence or strong fascination as in the case of a spell or a charm.

A person under the influence of witchcraft is led astray by this charming misrepresentation witchcraft has to do with control and manipulation.

The church in Galatia was now under the control and manipulation by the Judaizers.

  • Paul found it astonishing that the Galatians even though before them Jesus Christ died and rose up from the dead, they still believed in Jewish traditions such as circumcision.
  • They had turned their focus back to Jewish values instead of following Christ.
  • Paul found it difficult to understand why those people were swaying in their new identity in Christ. He concluded that they were behaving foolishly as bewitched people-Gal. 3:1.
  • The essence of our message this morning is bewitchment.
  • Is bewitchment real? Is it possible for somebody to “bewitch” and “befool” us by sorcery or witchcraft? Let us learn:-

WITCHCRAFT IS EVERYWHERE.

  • In our town of Machakos there was a local cobbler, he was very good at his craft mending shoes.
  • This cobbler man was not only ugly, but very short and with a humpback.
  • Cobblers don’t make a lot of money, he was poor, but this cobbler man has the most beautiful, fair skin, tall, educated (M.A) pretty wife.
  • This beautiful woman was one of the cobbler’s customers.
  • It was rumoured that this cobbler fell in love with his beautiful customers through witchcraft.
  • The witchcraft was put in her shoes and the educated, beautiful woman fell for the cobbler.
  • Many people cannot explain their situations and some of their actions because of witchcraft.
  • However, they are under the domination and hypnotism of evil forces.
  • Unfortunately, those that are misled and enslaved through demonic influences hardly realize their predicament.
  • There are many people who are hindered from progressing or advancing by the enemy.
  • Regrettably, some of these individuals have accepted their fate as the will of God.

WITCHCRAFT IS SAMARIA-Acts 8:4-13.

  • Bewitchment is real. The people of Samaria could not make a distinction between the power of God and sorcery.
  • They had been manipulated for so long time by the power of witchcraft.
  • Many people, even believers in Christ can’t discern the power of God and the power of satan.
  • To the people of Samaria, the sorcerer called Simon was “a man of God” they had followed him for years!!
  • There are many “men and women of God” out there, that are still bewitching ignorant and blind Christians.
  • Folly is thinking that the power of sorcery is the power of God.
  • It is very interesting that a whole city can be bewitched!!
  • The true child of God must be ready all time to fight the power of sorcery and witchcraft-The spirit of manipulation and control on people even in the church-Numbers 23:23.
  • There are more instances of witchcraft manipulations and control in the scripture.

Adam and Eve.

  • Adam was enchanted by satan through his wife and they continued to live their lives under satanic influence.

Herodias the evil queen influenced the king Herod in beheading John the Baptist, this was a power attraction.

Delilah, the wife of Samson bewitched him to tell all the secrets of his power and she betrayed him to his enemies.

The witch of Endor charmed King Saul and aided in bringing his reign to a tragic end.

  • The King Saul was swayed from seeking help from the one and true God into enquiring from the powers of darkness.

Ahaz the King of Israel also offered human sacrifices to the devil.

  • This king even sacrificed his own son-2nd Kings 16; 2nd Chron. 28.
  • King Ahaz was under the control and manipulation of witchcraft.

Jezebel, the mother of all bewitchment practitioners, the enemy of righteousness.

  • She was an evil woman. She fought everything that represented God.
  • Jezebel controlled and manipulated her husband King Ahab, causing falling into idolatry worship.

Athaliah-2nd Kings 11. She killed her grandchildren and bewitched the entire kingdom of Judah for six years until Jehoiada the High Priest came to the rescue.

The devil’s plot was to rid Judah of any descendants of David, thereby thwarting God’s plan to bring forth a Messiah, for the Messiah our Lord Jesus Christ was to come through the seed of David.

  • Who has bewitched you-Galatians? Anything or anybody can be bewitched.
  • There are no age limits, children, adults and the old are being bewitched.

ALL THINGS CAN BE BEWITCHED.

  1. Virtues can be bewitched, some men and women cannot have their own children because of bewitchment.
  2. Pregnancies have been for a long time targets of bewitchment.
  3. Food and drink poisoning can happen in a dream.
  4. Clothes and shoes are common objects of bewitchments. When your clothes and shoes are in the wrong hands you could be in trouble. But the fire of God is much able to burn every dross.
  5. Domestic animals can be bewitched so that they turn against owners.
  6. Houses can be bewitched and possessed by evil spirits.
  7. Land can be bewitched to not produce crops.
  8. Marriages can be bewitched to never last or to be in trouble all the time.
  9. Churches can be bewitched to never grow and to split from time to time.
    • A life without divine control is a bewitched life.
    • If you are under any form of addiction you need to pray- sexual, substance, food, internet, pornography.
    • Suicidal tendencies are now epidemic.
    • Satanic prevention and resistance in common-1st Thess. 2:18.
    • The power of bewitchment requires violent prayers for it to be destroyed.
  • WHO HAS BEWITCHED YOU? WHO HAS MADE YOU SO FOOLISH?
  • Finally the church in Galatia died up to date, because of bewitchment.

CONCLUSION-Prayer.

  • You the power of bewitchment in my foundation die by fire in the name of Jesus Christ.
  • Blood of Jesus Christ cancel any charm, spell, hex and jinx working against my life in the name of Jesus Christ.
  • I break by fire the effect of any voodoo working against my life in the name of Jesus Christ.
